Great win tonight! So proud of the Sooner women!

Winning national championships in any sport never gets old. Great win.

I think Patty has the sooner softball program on the brink of NCAA domination. If we can find a pitcher to replace Ricketts and Gascoigne the other tools are in place.

What a great win! I couldn't be more proud for this team. They deserve all of the accolades that comes with winning a national championship.

Fantastic team that represented our school and state very well. Boomer! :OU-logo:

I'm jealous of Chamberlain.

A pitcher like Ricketts can carry a team to the CWS, but you have to have hitting to win it all. And Chamberlain is on pace to shatter the career home run record.

Lauren was very kind to Jessica Shults tonight, but only by about an inch. Had that ball gone over the fence for her thirty-first of the year, it would have been her sixty-first of her career, tying her with Jessica for the all-time Big Twelve career home run record. Now, Jessica gets to leave OU as the career Big Twelve home run record holder with 61 which she will hold until Lauren hits a couple next year.

Was at the game tonight, and it was an AWESOME environment. Nice to see the Sooners finish.....

I'm jealous. It looked like an awesome environment from my TV. Also, props to ESPNU for a full 30 minutes of coverage following the game. The analysts agreed this OU team was the best of all time, comparing favorably to the best UCLA and Arizona teams. I wished I followed them more closely during the season...a 57-4 team has to be quite a treat to watch.

Fastpitch softball is a very entertaining game for the fan. Lots of strategy involved and it's fast paced. If I lived in Norman, I think I would try to catch a softball game or baseball game every weekend they played at home. My dad, when he retired, started going to more softball games before he passed 11 years ago. He loved watching fastpitch softball. I think its more entertaining than womens basketball and I love womens basketball. I just don't know all the rules to softball (for instance, one of the announcers made a comment last night that a ball that starts as a foul if it comes back onto the field of play is a fair ball; totally unlike baseball).

Mizzy...question since you were at the game.

I noticed they were playing Boomer Sooner over the PA system when OU scored. Did they also play Rocky Top even though Tennessee didn't score? Or does anyone know if they played it Monday night when Tennessee scored or did something positive?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you are saying, but that rule, as I'm reading what you typed, is exactly like baseball. In baseball, if a ball is bunted into foul ground, but rolls back fair before it is touched (or makes it to 1B/3B), it is a fair ball. Seems like that rule is consistent between the two sports to me.

Me too. Section 7 right behind the Tennessee Team (family) section.

Agree 100%. It was awesome. It was fun.

Amazing stats indeed, Trav!

I'll repeat what I said before. I think it's possible (maybe likely) that we have been watching the best women's college softball team in the history of the game. I wish I had picked up on how good they were earlier, but I'm sure glad I caught on in time to watch every game I could in the playoffs. We may never seen a team like this again, ever.

Thanks for the info! I wasn't aware the rule was that way. I thought once it hit in foul territory it was a foul.

They played the fight song for all 8 teams throughout the tournament over the PA.

Traveler: did they also play Rocky Top on the PA system or just boomer sooner?

After all scores, they played the team's fight song, although the fight song music did not come out real loud over the PA system. UT got to hear their song on Monday night, but I do not recall if it was ever played on Tuesday night, as they did not score.

Tennessee had a good group of fans there, and they were very supportive. Like all fan groups, some of them complained about calls of balls and strikes, even though they were sitting down the 3rd base line and could not possibly judge the calls on the corners of the plate.

The theme for the game Tuesday night was to honor U.S. military veterans and first responders. Before the game, an Army band marched onto the infield and played God Bless America and the National Anthem, while a group of soldiers held up a large American flag in the outfield. A soldier also threw out the first pitch (I think he was from the Oklahoma National Guard).

During several breaks during the Tuesday game while folks at home were watching commercials, individual veterans were honored and/or spoke to the crowd. One very elderly vet was a veteran of the Bataan Death March that also survived the horrific POW ship trip to Japan, and the subsequent POW camps in Japan. His family had 3 generations of Army combat vets, including his son who spoke to the crowd about his dad's WWII experiences.

Also, all vets in the crowd were asked to stand and be recognized by the rest of us. On each occasion to honor the vets and first responders, there was long and loud applause.

At Monday night's game, the theme was about cancer survivors. During one break between innings, they had their annual "march of cancer survivors" where more than 100 survivors marched into right field and lined up behind signs which grouped them by the number of years they had survived cancer treatment.

Whether or not OU makes it to future WCWS events in OKC, I can recommend your attendance at the games. The event is fun and interesting.

Thanks so much for the info. I was hoping they played fight songs for all team but could tell they played Boomer Sooner by the crowds clapping (I could barely hear the music on my TV over the announcers).

I read somewhere today the Tennessee coach was recognized last night as a veteran of the Vietnam War. That's pretty cool.
