Okay, so who is Plan B?

I would rather have kept Capel over hiring Jones or Evans. OU needs a proven coach such as Kruger or Stallings.

So what are we going to do, re-hire him?

Lots of people are looking for the "splash" hire, sorry, it's probably not going to happen.

I would have only fired Capel if I knew I could get a bigger name coach. Maybe Joe C still has an ace up his sleeve, none of us know. I hope he does.

If we end up having to hire the likes of Jones or Evans then yes we absolutely should have kept Capel another year and then re-evaulated. That would've given an additional year for the NCAA to (FINALLY) release the results of their investigation so it wouldn't be hanging around our neck like a noose. I'm beginning to worry that perhaps Capel was let go because the NCAA is going to hammer us. If that is the case then we may as well hire Evans because nobody - NOBODY - is going to want the job.

OU is basically in the same position Mizzou was after we got rid of Quin. Mediocre roster, possible NCAA issues... proven coaches are going to be very hesitant stepping into that situation.

I expect you guys to hire a quality mid-major coach. Hopefully for you it turns out as well as Anderson did for Mizzou (rebuilt the program in a few years, left us much better than when he got here). Expecting to hit a home run and hire the next big thing in coaching is just not realistic for where OU is right now. There are a lot of promising mid-major guys who will listen. They may not end up legends, but they'll help OU get back in the vicinity of where it belongs.

Capel was a terrible coach.
I would take my chances with Jones or Evans or Marshall or Martin rather than continue down a doomed path.

Voice of reason, thank you.

The big unknown is how many coaches and/or their agents reached out to Joe C? It could be that there is a good coach out there who is unhappy with the administration he is dealing with. Isn't that kind of the supposed story about Painter and Mizzou?

and how is that dreaming?

He will probably have his pick of jobs when all is said and done. And with the ongoing ncaa stuff OU will not be able to sway him from other offers, imo.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be wildly happy if Joe did get SS. Just not possible to me under the circumstances.

I honestly don't see how "pick of jobs" keeps OU off the list.

Who gives a crap about the NCAA stuff ... people are making way too much of this.

OU is a MUCH better basketball job than NC State and I guarantee you SHaka knows that from his time at Clemson.

Out of the jobs available OU is number 1.

Any idea what we are looking at in terms of penalty's?

I'm in for Terry Evans. OK, he hasn't done it at D-1 level but he has played at OU and won with OU andTubbs thinks he can do it - he is young / energetic / plays up tempo fun basketball / take no prisoners basketball / LOVE OU / understands the fan situation and understands recruiting Texas/Oklahoma area. What more do we want - we are NOT a basketball school. This hire is just like the baseball hire to me - went after Gene (proven winner) and ended up with Golloway who is alot like Evans IMO. Yes he had done it at ORU but to me that is alot like UCO in basketball.

Give someone with a Love for OU a chance and I believe he will put butts in the seats and win games. Less of a risk than bringing in someone who could care less about OU and the same chance to sink or swim.

IMO if we got a 2x2 and 1 yr postseason ban it would be surprising....so I will say that's the max....and given the transition year that won't be a big deal.

If it is Evans, why hasn't he been hired yet?

Kevin Stallings is a good choice and, to me, would be very much like a kelvin sampson hire.
