Oklahoma hopes to beat February [SoonerScoop.com]

Re: Oklahoma hopes to beat February

Good read. Fitz is right, this team is not like the last three that beat themselves at times by making too many mistakes or running out of steam down the stretch.

Still, senior forward Andrew Fitzgerald believes the culture that led to those bad displays over the last three Februarys isn't the one he's playing in this season.

"We're more deep than we were the last three years, so I think we're really built more, disciplined more, to get over this hump in February to March," he said.

Our turnovers are still troubling. But we're not folding or giving up when adversity rears its ugly head this season. I believe our improved depth and the fact that no one on the team is averaging more than 26 minutes per game has a lot to do with being able to maintain the high energy level we've seen in the last few weeks.

This team still has to prove itself in the games ahead, where it counts for the most. This time around, though, I think these kids are prepared to do more than talk about it.

I think turnovers and rebounding against teams with really good bigs will probably be a problem all season. The key is to limit them, and do everything else as well as we can.

I agree that we are built to withstand some tough games down the stretch this year. Last year's team just didn't have the depth to finish strong.

Thanks for saying that twice WT.

I agree....and I didn't have to make any effort to express it. ;)

I agree with this WT. However, most teams will be outrebounded by opponents with "really good" bigs. That's certainly happened to our Sooners, but they have, for the most part, still been able to win those games (KU is an exception, of course, but I believe we just flat out didn't play well against the Jayhawks).

Also, turnovers also have not been a major problem since early in the season – at least in terms of wins and losses.
