Alright, I am an absolute sicko. I spent time compiling all these stats and looks from every season going back to 2002-03.

I applied my crude scoring methodology and have it color coded for conditional rankings and such.

I hope you all enjoy, let me know what you all think.

Best individual Sooners seasons:

1. Griffin 08-09
2. Hield 15-16
3. Young 17-18
4. Price 02-03
5. Taj Gray 05-06

Let me know what adjustments I should make? I have the "Backup" sheet showing the players grouped by year/team.

I also should add, I kept the minimum minutes played per game to around 10 MPG. Maybe I should bump that up? Let me know.

Worthless list.
Where are Mookie Blaylock, Stacy King, Paul Courtney, Harvey or was it Horace Grant, Terry Evans, Les Lane, Alvan Adams and probably a half dozen better than that shambles of a group of some greats and some real light weights in OU basketball history that was posted. A bunch of those guys would have never got off the bench with some of the better OU teams,

Harvey grant played for OU and then NBA for 10-12 years. Horace played for the Bulls during their heyday.

TEvans made it clear the list was only from 2002-2003. What is surprising is you mentioned a guy from the 1947 Final Four team (Paul Courty), but couldn't remember if it was Harvey or Horace Grant who was a star on OU's best team ever? :). For the record, it was Harvey. Horace played at Clemson. Both played more than a decade in the NBA. Good call on bringing up names from yesteryear with Courty and Lester Lane (OU's first hoops Olympian).

Man I really hope compiling 20+ years of data, merging, cleaning, and formatting just for your all use and enjoyment wasn't worthless.

I can definitely look for a more robust dataset (assuming you didn't look at anything) that goes back historically with PER, W/S, efficiency metrics...but if you find one before me, please let me know. (btw you would have to watch film to calculate PER, it doesnt exist bc of turnovers not being calculated and such)

Not worthless at all...very appreciated. Thank you for that!

Tanner Groves ahead of Jeremiah Fears, the haters are in shambles.
I appreciate TEvans putting this together but, yeah, that seems odd considering Fears' importance to the team.

Even more surprising, seeing Wague this season and Godwin's first season ('22-23) ahead of Jalon Moore this season, Bookout's best season, Willie Warren's best season, Cam Clark's best season, Godwin's last two seasons, etc. Another one that caught my eye was Kur Kuath ahead of Tiny Gallon (and others), who is also below the aforementioned Wague and Godwin.

I know it's data, but it seems as though something needs to be adjusted in the "crude scoring methodology." ...e.g. adjust downward for fewer minutes played, as Wague, Godwin and Kuath (and Longar Longar) were the only players in your top 40 with less than 13 MPG...(edit) actually no other players less than 23 MPG in the top 40.

Maybe there’s a way to incorporate usage rate to weight the impact of the numbers? Not sure how that would work tbh but just a working suggestion. Would probably have to be weighted based on position because usage rates are much higher for guards than bigs
