Olukemi out for year

yeah i mispoke on the bones. Also forgot the tendon name, patella.
however, there is too much risk involved in sending guys out to play with such minimal evaluation. Since i guess you have some expertise, what would you have done? Would you have tried to get a second opinion or sent him out there to play. Hindsight says second opinion. That why trainers get paid. They make those calls and usually er on the side of caution.

I'm quite certain the trainer evaluated to the fullest extent, as did the orthopedic surgeon. Those people are good at their jobs, and they've seen hundreds (if not thousands) of knee injuries in their careers. At that point, they would have advised the player of their opinion, any and all risks involved with continue to participate, their recommendation(s), etc. They would then tell the same to the head coach or an assistant to communicate to the head coach.

The only question is whether they knew after evaluation that the ACL was torn. Doesn't really make a difference as the outcome wouldn't have changed, but this is the only unanswered question I have.

Has he played too many games this year to get a redshirt or medical hardship? I don't know the rule.

I believe the number of games is six, but don't know that for sure. Maybe someone else can weigh in on your question.

lots of misinformation on this thread. NOTE TO POSTERS: do NOT get medical advice/information from the web unless you KNOW who it's coming from. to preface this...i am an orthopedic surgeon. the ACL connect the femur to the tibia, not fibula. it is tested via a couple of things, but is tested by checking the anterior translation of the tibia with reference to the femur by a test called the Lachman maneuver or by another test called the anterior drawer test. if you don't do it right, it can be hard to interpret, even with comparison to the uninjured knee. other times, it could be partially torn and the abnormality can be more subtle. range of motion isn't a test for an acl injury. there are a couple other tests that are not usually necessary, and one that we always do in the OR prior to fixing them called a pivot shift. that usually isn't tolerated very well with you awake, so many guys don't check it till the OR.

to make this quickly...they didn't do anything wrong by having him continue to play. testing an acl can sometimes be equivocal in certain circumstances. depending on when it happened the team ortho doc was likely in phoenix at the time. you CAN play with a torn acl, but it isn't always the best of options. if a guy is a senior and isn't planning on playing at another level you can have the talk with him about playing with a brace, but that doesn't always pan out. in most circumstances, the guy is done and it needs to be fixed. most times the instability felt after it happens prevents an athlete from continuing.

is this a joke?

He knows what he is talking about. He has posted on OU boards since BEFORE he became a practicing doctor if I remember right. Mini did you not play football at OU, or was it your brother??? I remember you from the old board, and from the IW board......

Agreed. Ironic that it's happening on a thread where everybody is acting like they are smarter than the person posting before them, not to mention the OSU doctors.

Are you serious??? Or should I say is you serious????

Just be sure to correctly police everyone's grammar if you indeed want to be a grammar cop. Is usually is used when speaking of something in the singular form. Are is used for plurals. The grammar is abominable, and the punctuation is abominable, but together, they are abominable.......

Can we get back to discussing who knows bad knee exams and who doesn't????:facepalm:dance005::p

Sorry, couldn't help myself. Just couldn't believe in 2012 people still correct other people's grammar on the internet, knowing people are using phones, devices, etc to type......

Why are we wasting time and space discussing the state of OSU basketball?
Let's concentrate on OU. This is an OU board.

:facepalm

Yes, it is an OU board. Just so happens OSU is one of, if not our biggest basketball rival. Also just so happens that we play them next Monday, and the loss of one of their better players is a pretty significant blow.

Not to mention, I'm fairly certain what we as message board posters concentrate on does not actually affect our basketball team.

To answer a question earlier in the thread, JP was a starter and a very capable player (although he was not having a good year) this is a massive blow to our already depleted roster.

OSU had to burn a redshirt on Soucek the other night who is not nearly ready to play.

Page - Senior
Brown - Sophomore
Brian Williams - Redshirt Freshman
Michael Cobbins - Redshirt Freshman
Cezar Guerrero - True Freshman
Labryan Nash - True Freshman
Philip Jurick - Junior but first year in the program
Marek Soucek - True Freshman was redshirting

I don't know how OSU will win 4 games in conference unless Nash starts playing pissed...

Move page to point and back him up with Cezar (8-10 minutes a game)
Brown and Nash at the wing.
Jurick and Cobbins inside.

I hate zones, but play a bayor or syracuse zone (keeps everyone out of foul trouble, don't have to work as hard on defense and so starters can play more minutes, and hides slow and short perimeter defenders in nash and page.

Take the air out of the ball, avoid turnovers at all costs, dominate the glass, and limit the offensive games of everyone but page and nash. In short, coach the team like Sampson would, sans the zone. Ford needs a different set of players to play the style he wants to play.

This is the only way this team could win 4 or more games in conference. Not saying they would, just that maybe they could. To continue to try and run offensively and play press man with this bunch will be tough.

Im gonna be honest i haven't watched more than prolly 40 combined minutes of osu yet this season spread over multiple games, but do you think he is able to play pissed, or is he just gonna let it ride for now and hope to bolt for the league?

I can't imagine he could "bolt" for "the league" after this year... unless the league you're referring to is the D league... or maybe some league in Russia or something.

You can see the potential with Nash, but he's not near ready.

And it doesn't have anything to do with "attitude" or anything like that. It just looks to me like he hasn't caught up to the speed of the game at this level yet.
