All they have up is 3 by Capel

On the Nick Thompson intentional foul against Derrick Williams riling up the crowd:

"It shouldn't have. I mean it was a hard foul. How do you foul Derrick Williams? Do you foul him soft? He's a big, strong kid. He took a bad fall. I thought the fall was because of how he went up. Anyone who's played basketball knows if you go up like that and you get hit when you're off balance -- there was nothing malicious intended by Nick on that play. It's just a play that happened. But that's my thing -- how do you foul Derrick Williams? You don't want to give him an and-one. (Nick) wasn't going after anything but the ball. He made a play on the ball and (Williams) had an unfortunate fall."

Has Capel said anything about taking responsibility for the shape the program is in?

It would be unfair of me to judge Thompson's intent. But what he did was more than a "hard foul." The severity of the foul had little to do with what the official saw. Nick played the man, not the ball, and the official made the right call.

As I pointed last night, Blake Griffin was on the receiving end of several fouls just like that during his time at OU, some were even worse. If Capel wants to make excuses for what Nick did, that's his right. But I'm not going to give him a pass because he was in a Sooner uniform. He put Williams in a position that could have resulted in serious injury. Fouls like that have no place in college basketball.

And if Nick had tapped him on the arm and Williams finishes easily you would be happy? If Nick had let him go for a rim-rocking jam you would be okay with that? I doubt it. Basically, Nick was in a lose-lose situation.

I was absolutely fine with the foul and I like the way he responded. He played probably his best offensive game as a Sooner.

Where you okay with fouls like that when Blake was the victim? I doubt it. There is a difference in being aggressive in an attempt to block an opponent's shot and a take-down move that puts him at risk of injury.

An intentional foul puts the player at the line for two shots, with a chance for two or possibly three more points when his team retains possession. Common sense tells me that could turn out to be a four or five point play, whereas, a make and a plus one is no more than three points.

I approved of Nick's aggression, just not the way he went about showing it.

capels statement is weird b/c at one point he says nick was playing the ball and then another time he says it was a hard foul so that williams doesn't get the and one. which one is it? i cannot really see it being both

You can play the ball and still foul hard, after watching replay i did not fell like nick did that, but it can be done. And granted i was 6'4" and weight 245 lbs when i did it so i could go straight up with my arms and still jump into somebody hard. Nick at 6'8" 195 prolly doesn't have the physical ability to pull it off
