OU at ISU

I only saw about the last 2/3 of the game. I think everything everyone has said is true.

I thought it was the most inspired game since the first 10 minutes of the Louisville game.

This was a completey different team.

Earlier this week and late last week after another newspaper report where Sherri again was harsh on her team for everyone not playing hard every second, I saw tweets that came from Morgan and Kornet clear out of the blue praising Cole and saying how blessed they are to play for her.

At that point I thought the wheels were definitely about to come off this squad and that Sherri had lost the team or that there was some pretty serious internal conflicts going on.

Somehow, this team pulled it all together last night. I don't know what happened, but it sure needed to and I'm glad it did.

Now, just win the next win. Don't let up -- players, coaches or fans.

So I guess the wheels are still on this Sooner Schooner. It's good that Sherri's criticism seems to have had a positive effect.

I am sorry for ever doubting that Sherri and Sooners would lose at a place they haven't won at since 2008.

I'm a bad fan and have turned in my fan card.

I feel shame. :(

Best I have seen Edwards play. Just needs to develop an outside shot. She could have caught and shot several times last night.

Great hustle and no turnovers.

I agree. That is the first game I've seen her play this year in which she did her job while eliminating the bad plays. Nice job!

I thought it was interesting that the TV commentators remarked how positive the pre-game OU practices had been, saying that you would have thought OU was on a winning streak.

If our freshmen can continue to play like they did last night, we might win another game or two. They were six of eleven from the field for fourteen points with eleven rebounds. Even better, they had nine assists and only three turnovers. To balance those three turnovers, they had three steals and a block. That is not a lot of mistakes. They don't have to be the stars. They just have to keep the wheels from coming off until the stars get untracked.

Kay Kay and Nicole were ten of nineteen from the field. They only had four rebounds each, but it seems that both dominated the interior more than four rebounds. It did help our shooting percentage that the high percentage shooters were doing the shooting.

Rebounding? Notice how many OU players were around the boards? It was very difficult to ISU to get close enough to the basket to get an offensive rebound. We had the basket so well surrounded that it was easy. We didn't leave it up to one or two.

The key was that everyone did their respective jobs---on rebounding, on defense, on passing and moving. If one or two don't, it leaves someone else open. Everything is a waste if one or two don't do their jobs. Everyone hustled last night for forty minutes.

I agree. I would also add that it was good when we went inside with the ball, the other Sooners would clear the lane in order to give Griffin or Kaylon room to move and score or pass outside. Giving them space was critical in making that part of the offense work.

And if the defenders didn't follow when the other Sooner players cleared the lane, Nicole and Kay-Kay did a good job of finding the open shooters.

Exactly! Gotta give up to Aaryn. She guarded the heck out of Buckley last night.

The energy and determination the Sooners displayed last night – especially in the second half – reminded me of what I witnessed for a large part of the Louisville game. I realize ISU is in the midst of a losing streak and hasn't been playing well recently. But to go into that arena at Ames and beat that team is a huge accomplishment. It's something that doesn't happen often.

We wanted the ball last night. We hustled all over the floor to get each ball. It was interesting how few rebounds were ripped out of our hands last night. We got the rebound, and we kept it.

We ripped a couple out of other people's hands, as well.

Atlanta, on offense we moved the ball with quick passing and less dribbling. We went inside and quickly back outside which resulted in better shots. We pounded the ball inside a lot to Griffin and Kaylon.

On defense we used mostly man to man which prevented their outside shooters from having wide open shots.

I thought the changes on both offense and defense resulted in us looking much better than we have all year.

Second half on replay right now.

One thing I noticed; the passes inside were at Nicole's shoulders versus bounce passes at her feet.

Any win is a good win and on any given day...anyone can win or lose. Let's hope they can build on it and improve game play. I actually expected them to win because ISU is not very good this year. Great coach, but not a very strong team. The last game and for whatever reason, Buckley was not defended. If you leave me open all night, I'll score 40 points too! The lightbulb came on this game and the risk of not defending Buckley was not taken. Again, any win is a good win, but I'm not kicking up my heels just yet considering OU was the preseason pick to win the conference and ISU was chosen 6th? I think.

I have to say, going up to ISU, I didn't think we would win. I didn't count on Sherri changing her gameplan the way she did. I didn't expect ISU to shoot as poorly as they did. No way did I think Buckley would be held to 2 points. I do think our man to man defense played a part in ISU struggling on offense.

Here are four things I believe would make us even better:

1. Full court press any time our lead is less than 10 points.
2. Start Wyatt in place of Kornett.
3. Grab defensive rebounds and pass quickly to the wing followed by another quick pass downcourt. Put more pressure on the defense which can lead to them making mistakes and easier ways for us to score. That type of offense is more exciting which would put more butts in the seats and aid in recruiting.
4. Move movement without the ball in half-court offense.
