OU at ISU

Is it to early to say were back! Kay Kay was impressive, it was stated that she has been working with Coach Pam.

One of the things I love about Kay-Kay is she is so energetic and enthusiastic when she makes a good play. That attitude is contagious and ups the energy of the entire team.

I think we can certainly stay competitive in the conference if we continue to pass the ball and play good man defense like we did tonight. As a group, our freshmen played well tonight. Holding turnovers to 13 was a pleasant surprise.

Kaylon had her best game of the year. She had only nine points and four rebounds, but she had zero turnovers and only two fouls. She kept her wits about her tonight.

But, this may have been the best game for Wyatt, Kellogg, Carter, and Edwards. They all contributed with few errors. We needed someone to step up to take the pressure off of Vegas. Sharance (10), Gioya (8), and Derica (5) got some points to keep us in the game. Kay Kay had nine. Griffin had 12, and Morgan had nine. T'Ona had zero--0---zero turnovers. We had 19 assists on 30 made baskets.

We didn't wait for one or two to make the play. Everyone worked tonight.

Great team play on both offense and defense. Staying out on the 3 point line, giving them few good looks, 19 assists on 30 made FG, only 13 turnovers to their 19, out rebounding them by 8, as some said earlier in the thread; getting the "hustle points" all contributed to a great all around game. I certainly hope this helps build their confidence for a good run the rest of the season.

+1

This may have been the first game in which the freshmen understood the concept of team.

Fox sports OK is going to replay the game tomorrow at 9 am. Think I'll tune in, since I was unable to watch, and see how this team was able to resurrect themselves.

Good game to watch. You will see that Sherri had a very different gameplan tonight than we have seen this year.

Hilton Magic.......is .....SOONER MAGIC tonight!!!!! Great game, girls...Let's keep it up !!!!!

Norm,
I was not able to watch the game completely
Can you expound upon the key differences? Was it rotation, lineup and personnel?

With approximately 10:00 to go in the game, Iowa State hit a free throw, missed another, got the rebound, was fouled and hit two more free throws. The three free throws brought it to OU 45 IS 38, after Morgan had just hit a three to give us a ten-point lead. We now had a seven point lead, and Vegas had only two points in the entire game.

Vegas hit a three to give us our ten-point lead back. It is significant that in this game, we had built a ten-point lead with only two points from Vegas.

But, now, Vegas went on a tear. She scored about thirteen of the next eighteen points, and we took a 21-point lead at 6:41. In about 3 minutes, we built a lead up from seven to twenty-one.

Essentially, we tied the rest of the game and finished with a twenty-one point win. Vegas, who had two after thirty minutes, finished with twenty-two, scoring twenty points in the last ten minutes of the game.

But, the key is that we won this game, or at least got control of this game, without Vegas. Everyone stepped up. When they did, Iowa State had to begin to guard everyone else, and Vegas took off. It was a team effort, with Vegas simply swooping in for the kill.

Correction: Vegas hit her shot to make it 48-38 at 10:29.

Atlanta, on offense we moved the ball with quick passing and less dribbling. We went inside and quickly back outside which resulted in better shots. We pounded the ball inside a lot to Griffin and Kaylon.

On defense we used mostly man to man which prevented their outside shooters from having wide open shots.

I thought the changes on both offense and defense resulted in us looking much better than we have all year.

Also, because Griffin and Kay-Kay were effective inside, the ISU players were tying to sag in on them and the post players made several really good passes back out to the perimeter for open shots. If the ISU perimeter defenders didn't try to double Griffin, she was getting good shots in the inside. I love it when a plan comes together! :woot

I've noticed the players have virtually nothing to say on Twitter following a loss. But, last night and this morning is quite different. The girls know they played well and are thrilled with the win and they have mentioned it several times.

If this team can get 2 or 3 more wins in a similar fashion to last night, I think it will go a long way to the girls getting their swagger back.

Different team.

Moved ball, played defense, blocked out on rebounds. Really worked hard. Good job of rebounding. Hope we can keep this kind of intensity.

KayKay and Griffin attacked the basket. KayKay much stronger.

Used bench. Some penetration and dish but not a lot. Area for improvement. Lot of passes to post and back out for good shots.

Ellenberg played 40 minutes and was still in the game at 2:00 and a 20 point lead. Why? To pad her points? No Kellogg, no Gibbs, no Kornet in garbage time. They need minutes.

Kellogg 4 boards and an assist in 6 minutes. Why not more minutes. Glad to see her get even these minutes vs Durrett.

Hook foul trouble blessing in disguise. Showed that Edwards can keep things going. But she has to develop some kind of offensive game or she is going to spend most of her OU career on the pines. Good effort and contribution by frosh. Showed they can do it if they can get off the bench.

We led at the half with Hook out for almost 10 minutes and only 2 points for Ellenberg.

I said toward the end of the game that Sherri should clear the bench but for whatever reason she didn't do so.
