With approximately 10:00 to go in the game, Iowa State hit a free throw, missed another, got the rebound, was fouled and hit two more free throws. The three free throws brought it to OU 45 IS 38, after Morgan had just hit a three to give us a ten-point lead. We now had a seven point lead, and Vegas had only two points in the entire game.
Vegas hit a three to give us our ten-point lead back. It is significant that in this game, we had built a ten-point lead with only two points from Vegas.
But, now, Vegas went on a tear. She scored about thirteen of the next eighteen points, and we took a 21-point lead at 6:41. In about 3 minutes, we built a lead up from seven to twenty-one.
Essentially, we tied the rest of the game and finished with a twenty-one point win. Vegas, who had two after thirty minutes, finished with twenty-two, scoring twenty points in the last ten minutes of the game.
But, the key is that we won this game, or at least got control of this game, without Vegas. Everyone stepped up. When they did, Iowa State had to begin to guard everyone else, and Vegas took off. It was a team effort, with Vegas simply swooping in for the kill.
Correction: Vegas hit her shot to make it 48-38 at 10:29.
