OU at Texas

I was afraid we would get beat on the boards but I didn't know it would be this bad. UT won that battle 49-31. They had 20 offensive boards to our 7. Griffin only had 1 rebound and Kaylon managed 2.
 
This game is going to really test these kids. They had every opportunity to win the game and just didn't do it. SMH

This. We have no one who wants to lead this group. Whitney would come out and with her actions tell them do what I do and get them going. These girls just look at each other. Sherry has to go out and find her a player who's a leader on the floor and recruit them to be that leader.
 
We are looking straight down the barrel of a 2-4 conference start. We should beat KSU at home Saturday, but the next 2 are toughies. On the road both times, at West Virginia and Iowa State. Iowa State may be the first of those 2 games.
 
Correct me if I'm wrong was supposed to be motion offense team but why do we stand around and dribbled the ball for 25 seconds and hope Aaryn bail us out at the shot clock buzzer. You never see UConn or Notre Dame players stand around for 25 seconds of the shot clock and shoot at the buzzer.
 
Why did Wyatt only play 1 minute today? The last 3 games, she has played 27, 23, and 24 minutes. We had a girl with 9 turnovers who played 39 minutes. It is hard to undrstand some things.
 
Impressions from the game.

In the second half, Texas stopped guarding us closely at the 3-pt line, except for Ellenberg. Morgan, Sharane, and Gioya were passing up open threes and trying to drive. There was no opening to drive to. Texas was clogging up the middle on defense. And that's also why we had a hard time getting the ball to the post.

I was impressed with Texas' post play. McGee-Stafford was much better than last year. She is noticeably taller than Griffin and I think that was bothering Nicole. Their backup, Lang is 6'-5". She was solid.

Defensive rebounding was definitely a problem. We gave them too many second and third chances. Very few fouls were called on rebounding. It was basically anything goes. Texas took better advantage of that than we did. They were definitely taller than us.

Texas' guards were unimpressive offensively. Defensively they did pretty well. Of course, Fussell didn't play because of injury. The only real 3-pt shooter was the Lithuanian girl, who's a 6'-2" forward.

The new emphasis on the rules didn't seem to impact this game. The refs had plenty of opportunity to "emphasize" the rules, but chose not to.

The grade school kids were crazy. Whenever the scoreboard operator put up "Make some noise" or the noise meter, they went crazy. So the crowd was much larger than normal and the screaming was really high-pitched.
 
Good move, Texas. I wish OU was still catering to school kids to get them hooked on OU basketball at an early age.
 
As I said, UT is a solid team. I am a bit shocked Oklahoma got out-rebounded by such large margin. UT's inside game is a matchup issue, especially with their depth, but I expected Oklahoma to be the one team that could pose a problem.

They will get their fair share of wins in conference play.
 
Sad, really sad how bad this team is and it is basically the same team as last year minus Jo Ann.

Love Hook's tenacity but she is exposed by top shelf athletes.

I agree. How can a sweet 16 team be playing like this? Obviously Joanna's rebounding and leadership on the court are being missed but there is a lot of talent on this team and it does appear there is a team chemistry problem.

I'm sure that I'll regret asking this, but what is a "true" point guard? And why is it that you believe that Morgan does not meet this definition?

I meant to comment when I first saw this post. You saw what I saw. I think we could have driven to within about fifteen feet, but we don't have anyone who shoots a fifteen-footer with success. Mostly, we stood around at the three-point line waiting for Vegas to do something. We passed the ball around without even looking to take it inside or do something with it.
 
Actually, Morgan is a point guard and has been one most of her career from what I know about her. Two time Gatorade POY and Arkansas Miss Basketball as a PG. Read she was recurited by most Big 12 including A&M, SEC, ACC, and Big East teams as a PG. Can't believe she is a senior and people on here still know very little about her. Kind of speaks to what true fans we have on here.

However, people on this site love to blame and act like they know what the are talking about when really they have no clue. Like comments that she is exposed against better athletes. Seems in the Duke came she was the one rising to the occassion and out played the so called All American PG from Duke. What about Louisville, read a comment from the Louisville coach after the game that she was truely one of the top 3 PG's they have ever played against. Oh, then there is the Iowa State game just the other day. The only thing she didn't do well at Texas was make shots. Was 2 for 10. Prior to that she was shooting just over 50% from the field. As a PG she also makes sure everyone is involved. At times passes up her own shot (too often) to make sure she gets it to the person that is hot or makes sure the post get a touch. As Dan Hughes said on one of the games I was watching is she is a tremendous leader and has full control of the team directing them. One of the best PG's in country and he would know. You often see her making switches because of what she sees the defense doing. From what I have seen probably the highest basketball IQ ever at OU.

Leadership...Really are you not watching the games? She is constently coaching her teammates on the court, pulls them together for instructions, gets on them to perform, have seen her grap Griffin's jerseys and strong encourage her to rebound, celebrates with emotion, and coaches them in timeouts before coach gets there. She is and has been the leader of this team for a couple of years on the court. Players listen and respect her as you see them shake their heads and understand. Want to talk lead by example...she has been playing hurt from the beginning of the season, goes all out all the time, and never quits or lays down. Does she make mistakes, absolutely. Every player and coach does at every level and they always will, is part of the game.

Can she stop others from doing bad things...no. She can coach them, lead them, motivate them, but she cannot play for them.

Interesting and we have seen this time and time again over the past 3 years, when she comes off the court the offense gets in total disarray. Think that says a lot. But again many who post on this site don't even watch the games on TV or come to them. They act like they know something but really only show their stupidity.

So start supporting the team and quit berrating ALL of our players or take your cancerous attitude elsewhere...we don't need you at OU!!

Couldn't have said it better myself. Anyone who watches a game instead of the stat sheet can see very well how much of a leader she is. She's always the one talking to the other teammates and telling them what to do. I even remember last year in the Iowa State loss she chewed Kornet out for two dumb turnovers in a row. This year she's done her best to lead this squad and it's crazy how many of you are blind to it. Guess that just comes with old age, huh. She's without a doubt the leader of this team. I don't see anyone else that's even in comparison with her. Aaryn is gifted more physically than mentally, therefore leaving Morgan to play that opposite role as a senior.
