Maddie looked great in the first quarter. We need for her to play that aggressive every minute she's on the court. Everyone will be watching her closely in the next few games to see how productive she is.
Peyton is still the player who carries the mail. We would be in serious trouble without her.
Gabbi handled herself better last night but we still need to see her to gain confidence in her shot.
Kaylon played better last night.
Derica knocked down some big shots.
We played better defense. I'm not sure if we hustled that much more or if it was because BYU was not as quick as N. Texas. That bears watching.
We barely won the rebounding battle. That has to improve.
Our bench, other than ViVi, isn't producing much offensively right now. We need a couple of the reserves to step up their game so there isn't a big drop off when the starters come out.
Overall, that game is just what we needed. They just need to continue to work hard and improve in every phase of the game.
I think a part of the Maddie cool down was their adjustments. I think a part was that we quit moving with so much energy. She was taking advantage of open shots created by spacing and movement.
Let's say that we have player "A" and player "B." Player A comes off the bench and may give us four or five points per game, more if hot. But, her turnovers cause us to lose four points, and her defense let's the opposition score about four points that would not be scored if she weren't on the floor. Net +4, -8 = -4
Player B rarely scores. A score is a plus. But, they only make one turnover, and they limit the other team to maybe a point more than a starter, perhaps even a positive. Net score, -1. Anything they get on offense is gravy.
I think Shaya falls into the Player B category. You don't get a lot offensively, but she doesn't make mistakes and give up points. T'Ona is a bit in this vein, limited by turnovers. But, there are a few offensive points, and some good defense. Kornet was an A.
I just think that for now Sherri is happy when the reserves don't cost us many points.
A good thing: OU took out the starters in the fourth quarter. The reserves were not effective scoring. But, they were apparently effective on defense. OU won the quarter, 8-7.
(We won, only 34 posts so far. 95 when we lost).
