OU faces Horny Toads

I don't know that I would blame them to the press. But, late turnovers by our freshmen did take away what they had accomplished. They weren't exactly perfect, and they need to learn not to make lazy passes. Ana keeps doing that. Gabbi still did it a couple of times today (did it a lot as a freshman). I think we had about seven turnovers in the fourth quarter, five by freshmen. We had it in our grasp, and gave it away.

This^^^

The turnovers by Ana were killer. In the fourth quarter, I think she had 3 turnovers in four trips down the floor....and the bailout foul near the end. And missed free throws always come back to haunt in close games.

Well, their starters only scored 28. The key is that their team scored four more than we did, given that last lapse providing Ramirez with nine despite hardly playing. All of those nine were in the last two minutes.

There isn't one player who stood out today, good or bad. Maddie and Gabbi weren't hitting. Shaina and Ana kept making silly mistakes to turn the ball over (a couple were bad officiating calls). Maddie, Gabbi, and Vivi dominated the boards with 31 between them. TCU only had 35 as a team.

We started badly despite getting what we wanted. Vivi missed some chip shot layups that she rushed. She was only 3 of 7, unlike Vivi. Had 14 rebounds. We weren't moving. We had Shaina out front, tried to get it to Vivi, and got zero open looks---the exact opposite of what we had done against KU. Any shot inside ten feet could be blocked without a foul call, until the fourth quarter when they called us on a couple of blocking fouls. But, we were not running any offense other than stand around looking for a way to get it to Vivi.

Once we did play well enough to take a five-point lead, we made some of the most lethargic passes to give them a chance to get back in it. They scored five in a row due to turnovers by Ana on lazy passes. We never could get any energy back.

We just flat out lost this one. Quit thinking. The only good thing about this game is that our defense held a very good offense in check. We should have won by twenty.

Seems I have heard this comment multiple times after losses. This team is who this team is. They absolutely have to be better as a team as soon as Vivi, Maddie, Gabbi and LaNesia have used all their eligibility. Winners as basketball players they are not.

Forget the press, Syb.

She - in reality - told all the fans (the press is writing their stories - or preparing for the press conference - not listening to the radio), that the freshmen are ruining our team. That is who she said caused us to lose. She is wrong. You cannot win when your seniors shoot 20% and only produce 13 points. She should have said that. But she picks favorites (mostly who look a bit like her) and acts like they can do no wrong. Gabbi ruined our chances today. I like Gabbi - but in critical moments both Gabbi and Maddie are unable to produce most of the time. Yes, they will have a couple of good games in the 8 we have left - probably against Kansas and Tech (the only solid chances we have left at winning this year). Yes we may win a couple of others but it will be hard and we will need to be a bit lucky.

Had it not been for the freshmen we would have been behind by 25 or 30. All 3 seniors produced ONLY 25 points for heaven's sake! If you think you just have to blame the players instead of yourself, at least criticize the players who caused you to lose the game.

I admit I could not watch the game to see how terrible the freshmen were (according to your analysis above) because they hid the TV telecast from the OKC area - where most of the fans are who buy the tickets and are able to attend the games. Makes a lot of sense doesn't it? The guys were on TV by the way ( and played pretty poorly) - and were not playing in Norman.

There are no excuses for Gabbi and Maddie playing the way they are. None. Some of you need to learn that quickly. If Maddie has one good scoring game, she is sure to have a poor game the next. It's like clockwork. I'm glad this is her last year. Great kid, but she never overcame those back-to-back knee injuries. Who knows what the issue is with Gabbi. SMH. Shaina is our best player, which is sad.

No, OU considers OU softball the lowest priority of any sport. Two national championships in a row and hardly one article about any coach or team member.

Honestly just women's sports in general. It is not the least surprising that they tried to shut down WBB back in the day.

I don't recall any discussion of shutting down MBB - or football for that matter. ;):D;)

I dunno if Sherri Coale was blaming the freshman or not..didn't listen. If true a coach can only do that for so long (even SC). I have seen enough to say there been games where OU looked like a class 4a high school team. I have no problem with anyone who thinks OU will be better next year and so on, but don't take it out on me that doesn't buy into that. All the signs of a coach that's past her prime are there.

Does someone have a link to her post game press conference?

If Sherri is publicly throwing her players, freshmen or older, then that is the sign of a coach who has lost a team and she needs to be replaced at the end of the season.

To be clear OH, this was her radio post game interview which she does right after every game. She does them so soon after the games that if you attend and stay to the end they are over before you get to your car. I doubt they are saved for later listening. Sometimes her post game press conferences are available on the opponents website, but I have no idea what she said in that. Hopefully she expressed more appreciation for the 2 freshmen keeping us in the game so long.

She did not actually use the words that the freshmen were ruining the team, she blamed them for tonight's loss. Her words were much like Syb's above. That the freshmen made some turnovers toward the end and that is why we lost.

My point is that is not why we lost. We lost because our 3 seniors only scored 25 points between the 3 of them. That is who she should have pointed to if she really felt it necessary to be critical of players.

I for one am extremely happy with our 2 freshmen starters. They are great players with huge value over the next few years. I don't want them to get discouraged. It is unreasonable to expect them to carry the team on their shoulders.

In a couple of days I will post some numbers that make clear why we are moored toward the middle/lower middle of the conference.

I agree, Sweet. The box score tells a lot. This team is just not very good.

It still comes back to getting out scored 36-0 from the bench. It is called recruiting.

Hard to blame Ana for the loss after she single handedly got us back into the game in the third quarter. Ana needs to cut down her turnovers for sure but she wasn't the reason for the loss.

Once again it was largely our no motion motion offense. Not nearly enough player and ball movement.

Which to me is so crazy considering how well the ball moved against Kansas. I don’t care if KANSAS is not good...there is nothing real special about TCU either...good team but nothing that just glares at you. Just a team fighting to get somewhere they have never been.

I don’t want to put blame on anyone but the team the team didn’t get it done that includes coaches players and all that are part of that team. It is crazy to think these coaches aren’t asking these kids to do the simple things required to execute in basketball however it happens all the time and somehow players don’t execute. OU has talented kids but the one thing that is hard to scout is how kids will react mentally to pressure. This i believe is the biggest Achilles heel for this team. Their response to adversity is poor. To watch seniors almost afraid to make plays like Maddie because she seems worried she will mess up isn’t the psyche you want on your team- that is a expected from freshman not seniors.

Again i say you can’t blame everyone but at the same time if freshman are key components at this level and get praise when things go good they can’t expect not to be called out when things go bad. It’s give and take. There are freshman all over that would love to be playing . oU has two freshman who have gotten to be essential to wins and they have two that have been parts of losses. They key is OU has freshman who are going to have great careers because the value of the time they are getting is unlike many. Freshman don’t carry teams that is almost silly to expect. Seniors help the mindset of all the team whether they play or not. I think when gabbi’s voice was taken away as the point guard this team had no one to turn to. That is essential on any team. Listening to a podcast from Gabbi she points out she is no longer that voice. She’s now a shooter.

When TCU started pressuring the ball with two players as soon as we came across the line why not put Maddie at the point and use her size so she could pass over people? Thought it would be an easy adjustment but that's just my opinion. We also didn't move to help improve the passing lanes. Too much standing around watching the ball handler didn't help that situation either.

I disagree with this statement. The articles will flow in the next week or so when the team starts playing. OU is paying the softball coach more money relative to other schools than ANY sport.

+1 Absolutely

If she blames the freshmen, she really is off her rocker. First, the seniors are gone in a month, the freshmen come back. Second, the seniors have been here a long time and they still play like freshmen. Third, the staff has been coaching the Seniors for 4 or more years, the lack of development is on the coaches.

Frankly, I don’t care what SC says after a game. She could talk about global warming forxall I care. It’s all about how they play. She has no answers for why the team is inconsistent. Everything she says is about that Night. No look at the trend or lack of improvement, repeated mistakes.

At some point, adults take responsibility. Do we have any adults?
