OU investigation has cost $50,000 so far

No wonder this thing is still dragging on. If we have only spent $50k we have not taken it very seriously.

You can blow through $50k in legal fees simply drafting a PPM.

The 50K has been spent on an outside law firm, which just happens to be the #1 firm in the US that specializes in NCAA infractions defense.

Is there really a defense against an organization that makes and enforces their own rules, with no governing body looking over their shoulder to tell them what to do?

Not trying to be a negative nanny here. I'm just wondering what a legal firm that specializes in NCAA infractions does to defend their clients, besides dragging the investigation out to keep the ticker running.

Okay, maybe I am doing my best impression of a pessimist in asking those questions, something that does not fit my normal personality. It's that I'm a little bummed out that the NCAA has taken so long to decide our fate, when a half dozen schools in the past year or two have committed far worse violations than what OU is accused of doing.

I agree it's weird to spend $50K defending a payment that was what, like $3K? But that's what the NCAA system requires.

But yes, of course there is a defense against the NCAA.

Hoops11, I really don't have a problem with spending 50K on defending our position with the NCAA. In reality, we have very little choice. My frustations are centered around how the NCAA has jerked OU around, by pretending to labor over a decision that should have been put to rest long ago.

I base that assumption on the fact that far more complicated and far-reaching violations committed by other schools were concluded quickly, while OU continues to sit helplessly by, waiting on the mighty NCAA infractions committee to decide their fate. There is nothing right, or fair, about that!

The only problem with this thread is someone coming to the conclusion that we don't take the situation seriously.
