OU moves in power rankings ESPN

They just lost at home to Providence. And Creighton just took another loss. Our non-conference record is actually pretty bad. We're hanging our hat on wins against Butler and Tulsa and have two losses that aren't good.

Creighton sucks. Not a top 100 team. Bad loss. Losing to Washington on a neutral court is something a three seed should do maybe 1 out of 5 times. UCLA is mediocre at best. Missouri is garbage. Butler is decent.

Where does losing to a 1 seed (Wisconsin), a likely double digit seed (Washington), a team that won't make the postseason (Creighton) and beating Butler (7 seed?) put a team? I thought the projections of a 6 or 7 seed were generous. We're a borderline top 10 team. That non-conference record sucked.

Well, it's a bit early to make all those presumptions. UW has lost three in a row (none of them blowouts), but they won 11 in a row before that, so they might well bounce back. Butler has five losses, but there's not a bad loss in the bunch and there's no telling where they go from here.

All I'm saying is, why try to wrap it all up with a neat little bow halfway through the season? Conference play has just begun -- let it play out.

Many sports fans seem to have the need to decide very early in the season which team is going to be good and which isn't, very early in their careers which players are going to disappoint and which are not. The history of sports is filled with players and teams who surprised observers who wrote them off early.

The power rankings being discussed are current. I'm talking about what teams have done to date (except my projection that Creighton won't make the post-season. As of today, they might be in a lesser tournament since they're over .500). I'm aware, as I imagine everyone else here is, that things can change. I'm just saying that for as good as our team is now, that non-conference record looks weak now. We should have gotten through with one loss. Two would have been disappointing. We lost three. Thankfully, we've made up a game in conference play already.

UCLA has basically done nothing since that game. In fact they've pretty much fallen apart. Losing 5 in a row and just scored 39 against Utah. That is looking like a win that will do nothing for us.

Little Alford has been a disaster the past couple of weeks.

The Non conference is over and we are ranked in the top 20 in the opinion polls, so obviously popular opinion says we played well vs a good non conference schedule. More importantly, popular opinion says the Big 12 is a very good conference, so playing well from here out will only improve our stock in most people's minds, and playing okay will not hurt our perception. Lastly, RPI, Kenpom & other metrics paint this team in a very positive light and they will continue to do so if we play well vs the remaining schedule.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that despite losing two games that we could have won, the entire college basketball world sees us as a 4-5 seed with lots of upside. So why are we whining about these games? Further, who in the hell whines about wins over UCLA, Butler & Mizzou? I will never understand the need to be hyper critical of your team, especially when things are going good. I guess some people only see the negative in things.

I'm the most excited I've been about Sooner basketball since Blake was dominating. I have been keenly watching as much of the Big 12 conference games as I can because I truly believe we can win this thing!

Boomer Sooner!
