I have no idea like you it’s pure speculation. They don’t print any figures. This is all a narrative that many chase cause our coaches aren’t very good and our bball coach is not a great judge of talent. So Fears came to us cheaply?
Yeah, obviously it's not published so a lot is pure speculation...like a lot of things. I know we got outbid by a decent amout for Pudulla by ole miss. We lost Garrison due to a much bigger offer at Kentucky. We had Aaron Scott wrapped up, and lost him to an offer he couldn't refuse by a non-SEC school (SJ), but it was $ related. Tech offered Overton much more than we were willing to pay. It did seem like we got some $$ to play with late in the portal game last year, and got Kadary Richmond to even visit, although he was always thought to stay in the east coast, and we did land Duke Miles later in the spring and he picked us over Auburn...but he wasn't in the first grouping of recruits that we went after.
Fears was a totally different deal, since he reclassed mid-summer. I have no idea how much we gave him, but seriously doubt it was $1MM+. It's a fascinating topic and I would LOVE to have total transparency to know where we do rank. However, I don't think there's any doubt schools like Arky, Kentucky, Tenn (Lanier was NOT cheap), FLorida, Bama, Miss, Mizzou, UT, A&M, etc. had more $ to play with. Vandy, MSU, Georgia, South Carolina...those are the ones I'm not 100% sure about. It would be interesting to see for sure.
We could axe PM, but if the next coach doesn't have some NIL $ to play with, it's going to be hard to compete in this league. You gotta have the jimmy's and the Joe's. You can only "out coach" and maximize lesser talent to an extent. That's not a longevity plan to me. The support has to be there...and I'm not sure that would be the case...which is the main reason I am not wanting to run off a coach as quick as some on here (although I am about there with Moser..it just feels like change is needed. But I really am excited about Kai Rogers...so it's a double edged sword to me).
