OU-Northwestern State Game Thread

OU is also playing at a pace few teams in the country are matching. One leads to the other -- that's not to say there's no room for improvement, but if we continue to play at this pace, we're not going to see Kelvin Sampson numbers on defense. It's just not going to happen.

It's ironic, though: Lots of fans ragged on Kelvin for not being Billy Tubbs on the offensive side; now Coach Kruger and the team are catching grief for not defending like a Kelvin Sampson team.

Exactly. As others have mentioned, we are in the top 35 in adjusted defensive efficiency ratings on Kenpom. We are a pretty damn good defensive team all things considered. Just look at our steal rates/possession and creating TO rates.

Having said that and if we are talking about improvement, I would like to see us defend the 3 better. I would also like to see us play better transition defense when the game speeds up. We have the tendency to give up too many easy baskets at times when the tempo gets up to a frenetic pace.

I wonder if Coach isn't going to play some more aggressive defense....late in the first half, I thought OU was double-teaming the ball for a couple of trips down the floor.

If you have a deep bench, sometimes you can wear the opponent out....

After halftime Trae Young sits on the bench while the entire team and coaching staff are shooting and warming up. What's that about?

Been to several games and all players shoot as much as they want at half. Trae is always the first to go to the bench and others follow whenever they are ready. Some shoot right until the horn sounds. No big deal.

Could the reason be to not upset your star PG?

warming up is supposed to be exactly what the name implies - warming the body up to play. it's not some measure of uniformity to ensure everyone is treated the same. let's not try to start fires where none exist.
