couldnt agree with Lad more. PPG is a silly metric for evaluating this groups defense. I believe comparing offensive efficiencies would be more telling.
Their style leads to a lot of open court and fractured play so it will be the 1-on-1 and on-ball defensive skills that will really show if we're progressing defensively or not.
So first being in the right spots (when in half court) Then working on communicating, good switches, hands up, cheating a bit to the lane when able, shading guys one way or another. Theyve all (cept for Doolittle) got their spots down and switching, and weakside responsibilities down low etc... . So now it's on to individual defensive skills.
The point total means little when we're adding to the oppositions' possession numbers by a good 40%. Of course it's going to be high. But our forte isn't clamping down on defense for minimal possessions. It's providing proper defensive principles for many more possessions.
