Per Hale OU has offered Josh Watkins from Howard. Howard is in Big Spring, Texas and they beat Marquise Carter and Three Rivers in the Juco title game Saturday and Watkins was apparently the tournament MVP.

He's 6-0 and orginally from New York. He averaged 14 points, five rebounds and four assists this year. More info here.....

I would definitely like to see some video on him, but I like that it would give us more size at the point. His averages seem fairly solid.

Would be nice to steal his teammate (Jae Crowder, 6-6 220) who is committed to Marquette. He had 27 and 12 in the juco title game.

Video of the Howard/Three Rivers championship game is archived on this web site. Scroll down the list and click on the 8:00 p.m. game last Saturday to watch Watkins and Marquis Carter go at it. I haven't tried the links on other Howard games in this tourney, but I know the championship game is still available. I'm getting ready to watch it now:

Check out this link of questions from when he was in highschool

Here is an interesting quote:
Speaking of college, whats the plan for you?

I had a low S.A.T. score, so I wanted to go to prep school to work on that but thats no longer an option because I graduated from Wadleigh. I’m now heading to Howard College in Texas, a D1 JUCO for two years and want to eventually transfer to a top D1 program. I would love to play for Bob Knight, Roy Williams, Rick Pitino or Jim Boeheim if they’re interested.

Watkins has a nice drive and dish at the 2:39 mark.

For those who have watched film and so forth...Who would we want more between this guy, West, or Carter?? I am guessing if TMG is gone...Ideally we would like 1 of these three and then a prep PG.

If TMG is gone then why not take all 3 if you can? Then if 1 or 2 or all of them suck pull their schollies at the end of next year. Hey, it works for Coach Cal and Coach Ford!

Are you coming back this year?????

He kind of looks like former OU PG Michael Johnson in the first pic on this thread. Well, a mix between him and Barry Bonds.

For the record, I think I'd rather have Marquise Carter.

I haven't seen West play. But after seeing Carter in all or parts of four games in the NJCAA tourney online, I would take him in a heart beat.

I wasn't sold on Marquis until I watched the last two games. He's a solid point guard who doesn't make many mistakes or poor decisions in running an offense. He can also score in a variety of ways when need be. I was really impressed with his offensive skills in the championship game when he scored 35 in a losing effort. He just didn't have much help in that game.

I think if tmg comes back next year I would rather have this kid then the carter kid....but if we have no tmg next year I think we need carters scoring ability

Is Stoops recruiting Watkins or Capel?

I think it's more likely that Stoops is recruiting Watkins. He's got the build for football and as another poster has pointing out, Capel is out of shape.

If anyone wants to see Watkins/Carter in action against each other, go to the link below and click the Howard vs. Three Rivers link (in blue) under the March 20 heading. You can watch the full game and both have a lot of highlights throughout.
