"Tae, Nijel and Xzayvier are three of the premier players in this portal cycle and we're absolutely thrilled they chose to join the OU family," said Moser, who directed the Sooners to 20 wins and the NCAA Tournament this past season. "They have combined for 291 games played and 230 starts against high-level competition, so they are battle-tested and will be great leaders from the moment they step foot on campus. They are cerebral, coachable players who bring definite scoring punch with over 3,500 career points among them. We can't wait for them to get here and start working with our returning players and fellow newcomers."

I

No, not unless we plan to play a season with 10 or 11 players.
While I think we'll keep pushing for 1-2 players, like Reid, I'm not sure it makes a lot of sense to pay NIL to guys in the 12th-13th spot just to sit the bench. I know we have 13 ships, maybe to be 15, but with our NIL budget, that doesn't make sense for guys that aren't going to play, IMO.

Just give the spots to walk ons vs. paying $100K more or less for a guy to not ever take off his pullover all season.

The dilemma on that strategy comes in a year like last year when you have some injuries.

I don't know if you can take that risk. We won't know till at least the middle of July if Blair will be on the team. Let's say he doesn't come. and you have 10 dudes, two of whom would be incoming freshman and two others would be coming off major injuries. That seems like a disaster waiting to happen. If we don't add at least one big, I think we are in for a world of trouble.

Yep, I agree, and agree that adding at least one more big from the portal would be the priority. At least a 4/5. Good point about Blair.

I was just pointing out that I don't think it makes sense to pay NIL money for every scholarship position available. Especially if that moves to 15.

But the staff needs to fill the needs of the roster, and that is not specific to a number of players.

The reason I respectfully disagree is because those 12th and 13th spots are important for PRACTICES. I think you really want those players to be guys who can help make everyone else better even if they aren't quite good enough to be part of the rotation.
