OU recruiting 2017

I tweeted DeCosta about N Smith 6-4 2018 and linked Smith. Smith retweeted and liked the post. Maybe a chance if OU recruits her. I did see were OU and UCLA are the others Patterson was considering.

Patterson also took an visit to OU, it was just something about Texas :fexas-logo: she liked more then OU and UCLA... I think it had to do with the relationship they developed with her when she was younger.

I know I have referenced this before but feel I've never really gotten an exact answer or really if there are facts behind this question? But please someone tell me why OU does not have camps? Why in this every changing world of social media communication do they not use it? Or why do you keep seeing Stoops in the stands at the women's World Series but not Sherri Coale? Not sure if she was even able to attend? Just good PR for OU!

As far as the world series goes, Sherri was there Monday, in Tulsa for the Caravan Tuesday, and at the game tonight.

As far as camps go, there has been so much speculation on the "truth", that I have no idea. The answer from Guy Austin was a liability issue, some have said that since Sherri travels to AAU tournaments during the summer, she doesn't do them any more. I have no idea what so ever why the camps were closed, but from my most humble opinion, I think it is a good way to evaluate kids fundamentals, feel for the game, and more importantly a great recruiting tool to get the kids on campus and in the gym. For what it's worth.

Thanks Roc I would of thought of Coach Coale were in town she would of been supporting. She is a huge advocate for OU even if her team isn't winning a Natty! Just would of been nice to get a shot instead of just Stoops. If liability is the reason then something must of happened to pressure that situation because everyone in the country does camps other than UConn - I know you didn't claim to know the exact reason but AAU viewing periods are April July and Sept. So June is a non factor. I know this year she is getting in WHOF but p.r is just huge most Evals don't happen at camps coaches know who they want before they get there they get put on all star teams really get the "treatment" but having someone just show up to camp that no one knows and can play at that level is needle in haystack. It truly comes down to connections kids wanting to play with certain kids camps are huge for that connection

Good Post. It is true about evaluations, but it still gives the coaches the opportunity to possibly find that rare gem that can slip through. You are absolutely right about it coming down to kid connections, if you are doing good solid due diligence.

Every HS coach that I have talked to said that there is no camps due to the hassle and costs of doing background checks on every single adult that is coaching, and just working the camp in some sort. Due to that, the overall costs of camps at D1 schools has been jacked way up to where not as many HS teams and kids can go now. I just looked up and it costs $300-$350 to go to OSU's elite camp.

I believe that what Hoopdreams said above is exactly right. Some of us are making a huge deal out of not having camps. The evaluation periods in April, July, & Sept. are way more important than camps.

Shhh!!!! You'll upset the narrative.

Until we bring in moreAthletes, we will continue to struggle and be mediocre. I could care less about the ranking. Just bring in the athletes and run with them. You cannot take a program very far without athletes.

BTW, some facts for those thinking that there's not a recruiting problem.
OU's last women's hoops verbal was in October of 2014.

Any recruiting momentum from the early commitments of Dungee/LLanusa/Mulkey = gone.
With those early verbals 2 to 3 years before signing you'd think the staff would have loads
of time to recruit other impact players for upcoming classes.
But, 2017 class?? Still just LLanusa. Right now that's a massive recruiting failure.
You don't want to know the verbals for UT and Baylor in the same time period.

Not in Westbrooks top 9. Tentative top 5 for Sedona Prince UCONN, ND, Texas, SMU, and Oregon St. One player Raoul_000 had on twitter was Chantel Horvat 6-1 W considering OU and Micaela Wilson 6-2 W.

$350 is not a lot for a team..... It is about $25 a kid, and I know for Baylor its $75 a kid. Camps are a great way to get these kids on campus. That's just my 2 cents.

Difficult to know what OU's recruiting effort is as everything is kept on the extreme QT. I have inside access and I always know virtually nothing in advance. One thing is for certain recruits are not very interested in playing for Sherri. Not so for Kim Mulkey and Karen Aston where multiple top players are attempting to get the limited offers they have available. It does not paint a pretty picture going forward.

Another thing worth noting is the argument that you cannot recruit top talent to Norman, OK is bunk. Patty proves time and time again that top national talent will come to Norman, OK even to play in the less than ideal softball weather conditions Oklahoma provides in February and March. It is also for certain that Marita Hynes is not a top ten facility commensurate with the team Patty is putting on the field. But the top talent in the country continues to show up at OU. I wonder why? Should also be noted that Patty is every bit as religious as Sherri, if not moreso.

20 months with no verbals is troubling. Very troubling. There's quiet recruiting and then there's that.

I definitely agree that from the fans perspective there are reasons to be concerned. However Sherri has earned the right to work herself out of the present circumstances if done so in a reasonable amount of time. The question becomes what is a reasonable timetable. It will be difficult to get a consensus on the timing.

Spock,
It's not like 2017 is a one player or two player class.
5 seniors (4 depending upon Manning's status).
1 verbal from 2 years ago.
Still no summer camps. No word on official visits. 4 months from signing day, and the roster needs a massive infusion of talent.
