We lost today because we missed far too many shots that we usually hit. Had we shot that poorly in a number of conference games we won, the outcome would have been reversed.
The game started with lots of contact when we got inside. That was all on my end of the court and obvious to all. It is very hard to make shots when you get bumped during the shot. It appeared to surprise us a bit. You could see that from the body language toward the officials. It appeared that intimidated us from everything except long shots. Unfortunately we had a bad day shooting today. Any team built around shooting 3's will lose tournament games they should win. We all know that, and that is why Sherri has worked her heart off getting us an inside game. It was taken away from us today - and then we shot terribly from outside.
If the game had been called like 6 of the previous tournament games had been, we would have been at the line a lot in the first half. It was not called like a standard game. Guess why. The officiating crew they brought in was the one that called the game in Austin when 5 of our kids fouled out. Yes they brought in the Austin area insurance agent. He had called only one game before this one.
And those who think Sherri was passive need to start attending games. She had lengthy, vigorous talks with them about what was happening. One of the officials was waving his arms at her - looked very angry toward her - and I believe was prepared to T her up. This was not the Austin area guy, but the other man. If you have watched him it always looks like he despises Sherri when he calls our games.
at one point when the Austin area guy made a call against us he was by the Texas bench and made eye contact with Ashton and clearly smiled - and I think actually winked- at her.
Guys we cannot simply blame tins loss on the officials. We played very poorly. But we would not have won with this crew if we had shot 90%.
