**********OU-UT Arlington Game Thread**********

Sooners win in disgusting fashion, 63-59.

Wasn't pretty but better than an L. That place was rocking and the refs tightened up. Grooms, Osby, and Pledger got it done in the end.

Good game. It was a road win, and they got pushed to win at the end. I'm sure they will use film from this game as a teaching opportunity.

Lots to learn from this one. While a comfortable win would have been nice, LK can get them back in the gym tomorrow, and get them refocused. I think everything we did poorly tonight is fixable. Some of it with coaching, some of it with experience.

We almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory with this one. UTA was in the NIT last year and that crowd was involved. For an early season road test, I guess you just have to take the W and not get too greedy. We obviously have a lot to work on though.

very interesting game, first 10 minutes of the first half was ugly, and the last 10 minutes of the second half was ugly. The middle 20 was good. Good learning experince

Good win. This will pay off big by year end. As Kelvin would say, no one remembers who you beat in November, but they remember who beat you.

Yeah definitely not what you want to see, but at least we didn't come out with a loss. Seems like subbing out the whole team in the 2nd half when we were on a pretty good roll changed the game. Hopefully we will learn some from it and have a good showing in the tournament.

Not only were they in the NIT last year, that should have been an NCAA team with the auto bid from their conference. They only lost once in conference play last year, and then got upset in the conference tourney. They were solid. Lost a couple of scorers if I remember right. And that showed tonight. They defended and rebounded well. Just didn't really have any scorers to go to late. Solid team.

I will admit I am a bit concerned about Orlando. I was hoping to find a way to get at least 2 wins. I guess we'll wait and see.

I think utep is going to be a tough matchup for us. I hope we can pull that out so we can play gonzaga, just to see how well we can hold up against them.

Gotta give a shout-out to Cameron Clark. Made his FTs and got some big rebounds.

Another late work night. Another missed game. Glad to see we got the win!!!!! Early season struggles are expected, and nothing to panic about, IMO. Big shot by Pledger. Love it........

Haven't seen the game yet. I'll try and catch it later today or tomorrow. But a win is a win for this team right now. Basically half our roster is in one way or another new to playing with this team. Yes M'Baye practiced with the team for a year so there is some cohesion there. But with three freshmen guards getting a bulk of the playing time there there's still a lot of growing pains to go through with this team. UTA was a decent team last year. Our team last year probably loses to them on the road.

That was a fun game.

Our offense is still finding its flow. OU did a good job taking Reves out of the game and our Tech transfer Outler didn't get many good looks from outside. Our big 7'0" center Lagerson looked like he might have not even suited up for the game...not sure if we was injured...but it's like we needed one more big body last night and we're thin at the 5 position, but overloaded at the 3/4. Hats off to your coaching staff for the game plan. It worked.

And thanks for all the compliments about our arena and the noise and how tough our team played. We really like the size of our arena, and I honestly never thought I'd see the day when 6000+ fans would take an interest in UTA basketball. In Texas Hall, we were lucky to 1000.

But I'd also say this: you know how UTA played the trap/double-teaming the inbounds pass when we got down by 15 in the 2nd quarter and the OU guards had a tough time with it? That's how we won 24 games last year. That's UTA defense. Get some steals, get the crowd into it.

I just wonder why we weren't doing that all game. Against North Texas last year, they had some young guards, and we'd put like 4 guys on the two bringing it up the court, then double-team the guy with the ball before mid-court or force him out of bounds. We got a lot of easy steals, their guards panicked and we got out to a 41-6 lead before winning by 30. Yes, 41-6. So I figured we'd do that to your freshmen guards (talented players, wow) from the opening tip. Why we didn't do that all game, I have no idea.

PG play was shaky for us last night. Normally our starter Shaq is making all sorts of amazing passes and can get hot from outside, but he barely shot the ball. Not sure why. Drew Charles is the other point guard but he's young but could barely get out of his own way last night and got rattled very easy. He made a shot to stop an OU run, but it's obvious our offense has a ways to go.

That 3 with 2:20 left was admirable. That was the clutch shot we needed but couldn't hit all night. It's like when we got up by 11, OU was still missing some shots I was thinking "if we don't get the lead to 15 or 20 and put it away now, OU will make their run". And OU did. That's what good Big 12 teams do.

Good luck the rest of the way and I'm thankful to the OU staff for playing at our gym. It was nice to see what would happen if we got a big-time school on our floor, and we're close to being really good but not quite there yet.
