OU - UT Game

Every road win we can get this year is good, including this one.

Good game good win. The three's saved us with our lack of rebounding.

is this color gal a UT person? Is this the LHN? :ed

Actually, I think Brenda VanLangen is from Kansas City. She's done many, many Big 12 season and tourney games. Ron Thulin is the pbp and he used to be OKC Channel 4 sports guy years ago. I think he works for Fox now.

Well she was familiar but since we didn't have Toby and Billy I just wondered.

I'm pretty sure this was a "conference" telecast and not "SoonerSportsTV" telecast even though it was on Fox. I think Billy's done for this year and Carpenter and San Antonio Silver Stars head coach, Dan Hughes, are now doing the games, for SoonerSportsTV.

Did not get to see the second half, but watched all of the first. One thing I did not want to see was both of our posts get into early foul trouble. I was really impressed with how our kids exploited the horn's lack of stopping the drive in the first half. They had no answer to Sharane and Mo. Great job of both penetrating and taking it to the rack. Texas just did not look very good, except they are rebounding fools, if you would have told me we got out rebounded by over 20 boards and won, I would have waited for the punch line.
Obviously it sounds like the horns tried to take away the drive in the second half and we made them pay from the arc. There are some good rebounding teams in this league, hopefully we can get back to the intensity of the West Va. game and hold our own. I'm starting to feel a lot better about these kids. We should get #3 at TCU and hopefully hold our own at home against Tech. Sure would be nice to start off 4-0 in league play and start some separation. Just never know, but I sure am becoming more optimistic with this win in Austin.

We did get some very good looks on our threes, often from kickouts. If they leave us this wide open, we may hit some threes. I think Vegas had all but one of the misses, the other being Jo. Morgan, Sharane, and Portia were seven for seven.

After the first half, Texas was determined to stop our penetration. They collapsed on everyone who tried to drive, leading to wide open shooters, usually straight on from the top of the circle. Good passing helps.

This was really about a twenty point win. We got sloppy at the end trying to run out the clock. We didn't even make much of an effort to keep UT from scoring. We just backed off our offense as the shot clock wound down.

Thanks Syb. I just got through watching the re-play of the second half. Nice to see we could make them pay for leaving us that wide open. The biggest concern I have right now is our rebounding. I am hoping this was just an anomaly and we get back to being aggressive on the glass the next few games. If we can continue to play like this, their ceiling is unlimited, except probably for Baylor, but stranger things have happened.

Some, not all, of the defensive rebounds we didn't get were the result of really bad shots by Texas that caromed off at odd angles. There was one shot in the second half that they shot too hard and it went over the basket without touching rim or backboard. It looked like it was going to go out of bounds but a Texas player rescued it. I don't know how many rebounds we didn't get in the first half because Jo & Nicole were on the bench.

Good point, I noticed the same thing in the first half. Strange bounces off the rim, and of course Jo going out in the first couple of minutes with two fouls, kind of took away our rebound warrior. Thank goodness Sharane stepped up as well as Morgan during stressful moments of the game.

As to the broadcast, I believe that was a National game on the Fox network. I usually like Brenda as a color commentator, but I got really annoyed at that crew for not letting us know who fouls were called on. I think they even missed Nicole fouling out.

In watching the replay of the second half, I noticed that too. Ron is usually better than what he did today, and Brenda seemed a little biased toward the horns, but I cut her some slack, because she usually is even steven in her calls.

I did notice we only had 12 turnovers with about three minutes left in the game, then had five to finish out the game. Need to keep the pedal to the metal and not let teams get close at the end. Syb is right, this should have been an eighteen or twenty point win. Just got sloppy in the final few minutes.

I guess I'm getting old and cranky, but I would be much happier with the broadcasts if they would just tell me who scored, who fouled and how many fouls they have. Save their 'color analysis' for breaks in play.

I know I am getting old and cranky. Oftentimes, I just turn off the sound when watching sports on TV. No matter if it is the NFL or NCAA, football or basketball, men or women; the words coming through the screen are more annoying than informational, more boorish than entertaining.

If you had asked most of us what's the worst thing that could happen in a game (other than another injury), the reply would be "getting both of our bigs in foul trouble early". That happened, and we withstood it, going in with a half-time lead. IMO, another masterful coaching job.
