OU v. Kentucky

10-23 free throws in the second half is abysmal. They have no one to fault but themselves in not winning in regulation.

Add 29 turnovers and it really becomes almost laughable how we managed to make sure we didn't win.

It is a problem when your point guard can't hit a free throw. Who handles the ball to run out the clock? Gabi is probably the worst free throw shooter at guard that I have seen at OU.

There are some correctable problems. Last year, we didn't correct them. This year? I did like Kornet's game. She didn't do us any favors at the end, but she was the only reason we were there.

According to the post game comments, when Nicole had her jersey grabbed and was pulled to the floor, the ball slammed on the floor. Let's not jump to conclusions about it being "stupid."

Plus that T on kornet if I didn't know any better I thought we was trying to lose the game on purpose

Inefficiency on an extreme level. Just not winning basketball.
When a team doesn't have a talent advantage, it needs to play a solid mental game and be rooted in fundamentally sound play. Unfortunately, we're not very versed in either category … or at least we were not tonight.:(

The first part is true, after she was fouled she was falling to the floor and she intentionally slammed the ball on the court. It appeared she did so to get the refs attention that she was held. At first I thought it might have been accidental but the replay showed she slammed it.

Exactly right. I said at the half if we played smart we could hang in there. We made so many mental mistakes in the second half it was incredible.

Worse kind of loss. The only good news is that we showed we could play with the good teams.

Horrible officiating but it is the womans game. What do you expect.

Gabbi had trouble with the Kentucky pressure and the officials let them maul her quite a bit. She was really a freshman tonight. In one stretch she personally blew a 9 point lead.

I still don't understand the T on Kornet. It looked like she slammed the ball down trying to escape the player holding her shirt. Probably should have been a no call.

I would rather have seen Maddie shooting the intentional free shots. Derica is a good shooter but I think she has a little what we used to call buck fever. She hits most of her treys in cupcake games. Still not comfortable. Didn't even come close on the free shots.

I thought we slowed them down quite a bit with the 2-1-2 zone. The really blew past us on the man to man.

We rebounded strong until the last part of regulation and in the overtime. I guess we were fatigued but that is unusual when you have 12 or 13 players you can use and it appeared like we did use them tonight. I missed the first 11 minutes of the game so I don't know what went on there.

The block calls on plays that we almost always get a charge on really hurt. It seemed like for awhile the officials didn't know what a charge was and suddenly they would call one on the slightest contact.

Sorry, but there is NO WAY to be sure of that. Once you are being roughly drug to the court and are falling many things are possible. Perhaps her intention was to pass the ball ahead to the two teammates ahead of her and the dirty play caused her to do that. Or perhaps she was trying to get the ball out from under her so she would not fall on it. Sure you can say you will decide what she was intending to do, but you have no standing to make that decision.

Neither does that official. To reward the player who has intentionally - and roughly - fouled someone is outside the bounds of every sense of reasonable officiating.

You said she was roughly drug to the floor. I don't believe that's true. Her jersey was grabbed from behind but Kornet had pulled free just before she started to fall. It certainly appeared she intentionally slammed the ball to the court as she was going down. I didn't see Sherri or Kornet act surprised by the call and I believe Sherri would have blown a gasket if she disagreed with the call.

You must have missed Sherri's post game comments.

I disagree that it was a touch foul and Nicole just slipped and fell. It appeared that it was the pulling on the jersey - then her effort to pull away - that caused her to fall when the opponent lost her grip. That is why we are taught to always give the benefit of the doubt to the player who is the target of an intentional foul - especially when it involves pulling on her uniform.

I didn't say it was a touch foul. I agree with the way you described the original foul.

IT is the type of foul that officials should avoid calling. When they make a judgement call that directly affects the outcome of the game, they are exerting too much influence. This is somewhat similar to the Oregon football game a few years back. We made mistakes, which were compounded by some officiating.

I still don't understand why Kornet could not shoot the free throws.

I didn't understand that either as she was still an active player when she was fouled.

I didn't get that either. Since it was an intentional foul, We were going to get the ball back any way. They shoot the technical first, Kornet shoots the two free throws then you sub her out for disqualification.

Disqualified player can not shoot free throws. Once she got the T (which I would have to question) she is considered a disqualified player (because that was her 5th foul) and can not shot the free throws.

I would like to have seen Sherri insert LaNesia at the point. Gabbi was not quick enough to beat her defender off the dribble. In fact, her defender was in her grill the whole night and would back Gabbi to the center line. I believe LaNesia is quick enough not to allow that to happen. If Sherri would have gone to a four corners game and put the ball in the hands of LaNesia, she might have been able to put her defender on her heels by attacking the basket.

Huge difference in defensive philosophy in that game between the two coaches. We guarded to the 3 pt line, they guarded to the locker-room. Their defensive pressure disrupted everything Sherri wanted to do offensively. It certainly played a huge part in the final score of the game.

On one hand, I get that. On the otherhand, she wasn't disqualified when she was fouled and; therefore, should have been able to the line. I didn't know that was the rule but since it is, I guess I should like it but I don't. :)
