OU v. Kentucky

I am one of the first to defend officials and almost never bash officiating as they are normally right as they have a much better view a few feet from the action than we do watching TV or online. But, the officiating last night might have been the worst I've ever seen. Players would get mugged and no call. Next there would be a touch foul and the whistle would blow. The refs disrupted the game all night and players didn't know what to expect and were not able to adjust. It wasn't just OU getting lousy calls. Ky got them too. But, I do think OU came out on the losing end of the the worst night of officiating I've seen in a long time.

Between the two games they have played I asked myself do they really foul eveytime the opposition shoots the ball.

You must have missed Sherri's post game comments.

Is there a place to read them? Were they on audio right after the game and, if so, where?

I have looked for comments for both games but not been able to find them. So, if anyone has an answer, please let me know. Thanks.

Also, not to debate the fairness of the technical nor to say she did or did not intentionally slam the ball, but just a comment.......I saw somewhere that the tech was for excessive celebration.

Sherri was interviewed by the radio crew right after the game. She was clearly concerned about the foul called on Nicole. Of course she has to be very careful about exactly what she says or the league will fine her (or worse) for even suggesting there may have been a bad call in a game.

It is called hiding the truth behind a wall of "never accuse us of making a mistake - we're too sensitive to accept any critism". Yes, I know I'm being a bit (but just a bit) overboard with this. But officials are far too protected. It leads to all kinds of issues - including poor quality officiating that could be improved with a reasonable degree of transparency.

In this game it is not possible to simply blame the loss on the officiating since we missed so many free throws. That is terribly disappointing since it is a continuous of what happened - and cost us - last year.

I've said it once before. We struggle Against More Athletic teams!
Face it. We are to Slow and are one dementioned. I like the lineup with Neesie,Gioya, Gabi, Sharane, and I forgot who else.

We need to recruit more Athleticism and speed!
You can live by the 3 or die by the 3 and right now we
Are dying by it. It can only take you so far.
Sure it's nice to have some 3pt shooters but when it comes down to matchups
This is what will happen. This would of been a perfect game for T'Ona to get more time IMO.

These 2016,2017,2018 classes are Crucial for Athleticism. How many
Ships available for 2017 and 2018? Right Now Llanusa fits just what we need Speed, athletic , and can handle the ball!

Also. Hats off to Kentuckys Staff and Strength and Conditioning coach.
They did not seem tired at all!constantly pressuring the ball and pushing tempo. He certainly knows how to recruit the players that fit his system

Johnson and Wilson would also add speed and skill to the team. Of course, Cox certainly would.

The two losses this year have absolutely nothing to do with speed. They are a matter of not moving without the ball. When we do, we are OK. When we don't, well, no team is good without movement. Ask UConn.

Revisiting the last seconds of the game:

I wonder why Sherri did not put Sharane - a senior - on the line to shoot Nicole's free throws instead of putting a sophomore in that kind of pressure situation? Sharene had connected on 7 of 11 at the line, not great, but on a night that OU was 54% at the stripe, it certainly would have seemed to have been a better choice. She just needed one of two... what was Derica's FT % going into the game, anyone know?

Any time that pressure situations like shooting a last-second free throw come up, I want experience if at all possible.

These may have been Derica's first free throws of the year. But, she is generally credited with being an outstanding FT shooter, going back to HS.

I'm not sure, but in a personal foul type situation, doesn't the person replacing the person who leaves have to shoot the free throws. That's not like a Technical. Derica replaced Kornet. Who shoots the Kornet free throws?

I was thinking that when a person has to leave the game, but who has foul shots coming to her, regardless if it was a technical, an injury, or whatever, that the coach had the right to put whoever she wanted at the line in place of Kornet.
Obviously, anytime that someone comes off the bench, shooting free throws like that for a disqualified player, there is a lot of pressure. Some of the best free throw shooters have fallen prey to that kind of situation and choked.
I just thought that a more seasoned player like Sharane, who was into the flow of the game and not coming cold off the bench would have been a better choice.

Hopefully, Derica will not suffer any loss of confidence over her failure at the line. Confidence is a large part of success, no matter the endeavor.
Anytime something like that happens, it can either spur the player to work harder on that facet of her game or it can have an adverse effect upon her.
Hopefully, the former...
