The University of Oklahoma's basketball team hopes to build momentum off of the commitment of highly regarded 2012 wing Buddy Hield this weekend and add the commitment of another highly regarded wing — Jelon Hornbeak from Grace Prep in the DFW area. Hornbeak, a 6'4 physical guard who is ranked 89th nationally by Rivals.com, has visits set up with Texas Tech and South Florida after this weekend with the Sooners. Kruger and staff hope to cut those visits short much like last week with Hield.

Hield, who took an official visit to Oklahoma last weekend, will take an unofficial this weekend to help the Sooners with Hornbeak, and to also show fellow Sunrise teammates — 6'6 wing Nathan Bain (2014) and 5'10 point Lourawls "Tum Tum" Nairn (2014) his future home. Both are talented players who are now starting to get on the radar nationally, and the Sooner staff hopes their recruitment of Hield will pay off on these young prospects.

The Sooners look to have a lot of scholarships in 2013 to rebuild, and Dallas area wing Nathan Hawkins could be potentially a candidate. The 6'5 wing, from Rollett High, had a very good summer with the Dallas Mustangs and could potential be a sleeper recruit for the Sooners down the line. Kruger and staff are already recruiting 6'6 wing Leyton Hammonds (Dallas, TX), 6'2 combo guard Marcus Foster (Wichita Falls,TX) and 6'4 point guard Kendal Harris (Richardson, TX).

The Sooners will bring in a special recruit in 6'7 forward C.J. Cole (Sperry OK). Cole, who averaged 26 points per game for Sperry last season, is also a great student (4.0 GPA) to go along with a 32 on his ACT.
The 2012 top 20 player in the state of Oklahoma, according to OKHoops.com, is also considering schools like Cornell and Davidson to go along with countless D2 programs from Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and the Texas region.

You da man, WJ!!! Thanks for an outstanding report! I like how LK and his staff are filling our needs for the short term, and recruiting for the future by going after quality recruits in the 2013 and 2014 classes.

Here is some video of Hornbeak in action beginning at the 1:05 mark:

So would Cole walk on? I haven't heard his name before

So is Grace Prep the team that Douglas beat last year in that tournament in Bethany??

Thank you, Will, for all that you do for this site!

I have a great feeling Coach Kruger will capitalize on the success of the OU football team to continue attracting talented basketball players.

Amen.

Agree. Kruger has done a fantastic job already. Now give him some recruits and let's get OU back where we belong!

I think we may have a nice class shaping up.

Going to assume preferred walk on status. He likely would have a lot of academic scholarships to cover his tuition.

Yes.

2014 could be very big class, some talented Oklahoma kids are in it, then Nairn and Bain. Personally, I love Bain's potential.

If we sign no JUCO's in the 2012 class, and fill up the roster, how many 2014 scholarships will we have? Assume a full class in 2013 as well.

I would like to have any recruit whose parents named him after Lou Rawls.

I think Cole has a very talented younger brother.
