To get back to our winning ways, we have to defend better and hit the boards. If we do that, we will beat the Cyclones by 8.

On paper, these teams have similar percentages on most things. We have fewer turnovers, which is strange because they are better at A/T. Rebounding is about the same. We shoot slightly better than they do. We foul more than they do, and they do hit free throws.

Let's hope we show up to play at 10:30 Wednesday morning. Hope there aren't any parties or carousing on Tuesday night.

We will beat them if they left that funky play back in W. Va. We certainly
need Gioya to show up and think she will.

Actually the argument could be that KK is the key. For us to do well, she needs to be on the court most of the game.

I regret this game is being played without our usual home game atmosphere. Who knows what the atmosphere will be like. Unusual crowd, weird time to play, etc. Have we given away the normal home court advantage?

It will be fun for the kids - but it is a critical game for the girls. Lets hope for a positive result.

Why do you think this? I certainly hope so, but admit I'm never certain what we will see from an individual player.

Is their something about the two teams' strengths and weaknesses that should give us special confidence about Gioya in this one?

I look for Gioya to have a good game as ISU can shoot the ball but from what I've seen, they do not appear to be that athletic.

I haven's seen Iowa State play and haven't really read about them other than their wins. I just believe we always need Gioya's ability to score in different ways. Not only do we need her points but think it frees up other people to score. She is aslo a great defender and rebounder. She DOES make silly fouls but that is usually offset by her play. Hopefully, she will get better with the fouls, think she has in some games. Too, if Gioya isn't scoring that puts pressure on other players to make-up the points she usually has. We haven't been great about doing that.
EDIT: I agree that Kay Kay (or the combination of posts) is usually critical but I don't think she has played all that well this year though I imagine I may be in the minority in this opinion. However, we have been able to win with not-so-good post play. It would make winning a more foreseeable outcome if Kay Kay was playing better. I believe she can but she is still not consistent in her game

Do you think this or are you saying I think this? Right now, I do. It could change.

I think this, largely for the reasons that you stated in your most recent post. Gioya is what sets this offense in motion. She creates the space. If she is moving, it gets everyone else moving. It creates holes in the defense.

We have shown that we can play long periods without Kay Kay, unfortunately. But, we really only have had a couple of situations in which we survived without Gioya. In one case, Maddie became Gioya. But, we have to have someone get the motion going.

Blaskowsky, Buckley, and Moody hit the three at over 40%.
They shoot 78.4% from the line as a team!!
Not a lot of fouls, blocks, or steals.
Get three rebounds per game more than their opponents.

If the women play defense as well today as the men played last night, ISU will take a beating just like WVU did.

Sharane needs to drive and shoot jump shots like that 10-15 times a game.
