OU vs KU Game Thread

Did anyone else notice that we ice pick & rolls?

I felt better about this game than any other this year. It was very difficult for us to win on the road last year - so this is a great way to handle our first conference road test. I wonder if all those non-conference road games have created a certain comfort level with being away from home?

Yes, I know. Kansas is going to finish in the lower portion of the conference. But even those kind of teams gave us lots of trouble last year.

Payton Little 17 pts, 0 personal fouls

Gioya Carter 19 pts, 1 personal foul

KK Williams 14 pts, 11 rebounds, 2 personal fouls

Those are numbers that we can win lots of games with, and I'm positive Sharane will lead us in many games down the road - to either add to the above or replace one of them on their down nights.

I felt like we played very good defense. Held them to 57 pts, we did not committ many fouls, and showed excellent turnover control - we only committed 12. We can win lots of games with that number - although it will be hard against more athletic teams.

I thought KK clearly showed signs of understanding how to avoid committing too many fouls. Sherri (or one of the coaches) has obviously been working with her on defensive mechanics. Let's hope she keeps it up.

Additionally we had 15 offensive rebounds - that's terrific - and perhaps the key to the win.

Great game girls. You made all your fans proud tonight.

I'm not very critical about college BB players, Norm. OU has played a top 10 strong non-conference schedule, and is tied with BU and UT at 2-0 in the 12.

Things could be worse. We have 1 senior and 2 juniors on a roster of 14.

Clearer sailing ahead. That's my call, and I'm better than the NWS.

Brenda was doing the PBP with the KU guy and she pointed out how we were turning our bodies to make the KU players change their direction.

I noticed that too. Honestly, I didn't expect us to hit the offensive boards the way we did.

I think Sherri should ice pick & rolls more often it's something rarely seen in college basketball.

Gioya came into the game 1-9 in free throws. Tonight with the game on the line, she was 6-6.

Hard to believe that's all the FT she's gotten.

You're right. We all remember how DRob would make a move to the basket and there was a very good chance she would initiate some contact before getting off a shot. That would often send her to the line for a 3 pt play. Gabbi has not learned that yet. She shies away from contact and she will pull the ball back out. Hopefully, Gabbi will learn when to be aggressive and put pressure on the defender instead of pulling the ball back out, which is what the defense is hoping she will do. But, the bottom line is, we very much need for our PG to get to the line more.
