OU vs Maryland Eastern Shore 7pm FSOK

Fascinating. I was very happy with our team tonight. Show a lot of pure, raw talent, more than I've seen since Buddy left. Wouldn't surprise me if we were at least a Sweet Sixteen team once the pieces fit.

Glad I watched it before coming here to get depressed.

Exact thoughts from me, glad some people don’t just look at the score to determine opinions.

What crazy statement? Doolittle has been inconsistent throughout his career here. He is probably our best player. But that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been inconsistent. In the 10 games at the start of conference play last year he scored: 12, 16, 9, 24, 7, 9, 7, 4, 12, and 7. And then he scored at least 14 in every game after that until scoring 8 against UVA. That was after starting the year averaging 5.9 points through the first 10 games of the season. He’s been highly inconsistent. Hopefully we see less of that throughout this season. I thought he could be an NBA player after his freshman year. That’s unrealistic, but he can still be very good for us.

And if you had said he was inconsistent this time last year, or even through the first half of last season, I don't think anyone would dispute that. The issue is that you specifically said he is still as inconsistent as ever, and that's clearly not true. I know it's easy to get caught up with the emotions of a game, but that specific statement was clearly overboard. He has actually become a model of consistency for probably about his last dozen games or more.

Finished watching the game:

1) they were 5/9 from open 3. The rest were contested.

2) Doolittle & Reaves are the best, Bienemy needs to be there consistently.

3) Hill & Iwuakor are great energy/defenders, bench is good. Iwuakor is so much better than Kur it isn’t close right now.

4) Alondes Williams is the most raw talented player on the team, he sees things quickly & reacts crazily well. Not best, but most talented.

5) not worried about Harmon’s start, he’s a winner & gets it.

Harmon +27
Williams -1

Harmon was better than his stats showed, but Williams did a lot of good things. Harmon was just part of the big run of the beginning 2nd half.

Stanford destroyed William & Mary by 31 points...

Just throwing that out there.

It was a meh week for the Sooners. But as long as you win, it's easy to get over meh. They looked really sharp against Minnesota and especially Oregon St.-- that matters more to me. I thought they looked sluggish and just so-so against two lesser-lights this week-- the second of which is a really terrible basketball team. But it's also hard to escape human nature-- November games, mid week, arena is 75% empty, the guys are likely coasting (subconsciously at least). Wasn't overly impressed with anything they did this week, but not overly concerned either. Fine start to the season overall. Looking forward to seeing them against some better competition next week.

And only beat Eastern Shore by 20.

So clearly Eastern Shore > William & Mary

Weird... Stanford and OU play each other. And Stanford has played Maryland Eastern Shore, William & Mary, and will play Oregon State as well. Stanford and Oklahoma will also play Kansas.

The last two games have been part of the on-campus portion of the tournament we are in next week. That's why those teams have all played each other.

Mostly agree. OU's 3 pt defense is getting a little concerning. I will reserve judgment on whether this is a something to be concerned about or something to write off as "sometimes you catch teams when they're hot".

I was encouraged at how OU started closing out on 3s in the second half last night. But it's hard to take much away from last night. Maryland Eastern Shore is literally one of the worst teams in the NCAA.

Not sure where all the MES is “literally one of the worst teams in the NCAA” opinions are coming from. They are pretty athletic and play extremely hard. Not saying they are great but I didn’t see the horrible team you guys keep talking about.

The first few pages of this thread were hard to take. I could only shake my head as my favorite Sooner board sank into the depths of insanity.

KenPom rates them 348 (out of 353). I get that's a small sample, and things could get better for them, but three of their losses are by 11 to Liberty, 30 against Longwood, and 23 vs. Morehead St. So that rating is not without a reason.

Just because they played hard for one game does not mean this will be a good team by season's end. If I were made to bet on it, I would bet against them cracking the top 300 in KenPom or really any other decent metric this season.

Wasn’t aware of those numbers I was just going off of what I saw. They didn’t look like a terrible basketball team. Who knows, you may be right.

The announcers said that seven members of the team were missing due to injury, including three starters. If that is true, there are top 25 teams that might be 0-5 right now if they were missing three starters and four benchwarmers.

I don't hold myself out to be an expert on Maryland Eastern Shore Basketball. I know the announcers raved on about the "tough" schedule they've played, but failed to mention that they got smoked by 30 by "Longwood," so take that for what it's worth.

I'll just put it this way, MES finished both of the last two seasons 7-25 (playing in the MEAC). In the last 25 seasons, they've had one winning record (18-15 in 2014-15). During that span, they were more likely to finish with single digit wins, than double. Again, I get every year/team is different. Maybe they've got 3 guys on the bench waiting to turn things around for them. But history plus the early returns this season say that's not likely.

did you WATCH them play? I get so tired of people and all their statistics and BS - did you WATCH them? that was not "the worst team in the ncaa". they're undermanned and not on a familiar court yet they played hard and didnt make a ton of mistakes defensively. offensively they moved the ball pretty well and had some timely shooting. add in some tenacity and that's a winning formula. maybe achieving consistency will be this coach's forte? seems like they're on the right path if this is how they play. so stop knocking them down to build yourself.
