OU vs Samford

Carter had 8 points yesterday. Under normal circumstances I would say that's a pretty decent game. Unfortunately, she had 9 turnovers. More turnovers than points is never a thing.

Does she have potential? Perhaps but it's too early to tell. We have seen too many fouls, inconsistent defense, and less than stellar shooting. I do not see how anyone thinks she should start over Kornet or Sharane.

You are very right on this one.

OU finished with 23 turnovers and Carter had 9 of those.
And only because we're often quick to criticize and slow to praise, I'll add that Morgan played 29 minutes and had 0 turnovers, not to mention 12 points, including 2 of 5 3-point shots, 5 assists and 5 rebounds.

Yes, Morgan had a very solid game!

That virus is a nasty, nasty bug, all seven us in my family came down with it on the 23rd. We did not move or eat much until the 28th. Man. it was the worst.

I think Sharane is great whenever she gets in the game, and I think, hands down, she is the best overall player on the team. I got miffed when I saw she didn't start and was too harsh on Coach in my previous post.

I can see where she would want to give Carter all the time at point she can. She thinks she can clearly be similar clone to we all know who. I'm not saying she will ever be as good, but she has speed, drive, quickness and can shoot...so we haven't had someone like that in three years now.

I also agree with Coale, who said a day or two previous, that no one was really stepping up to lead this team the way Hand did and that she (Sherri) was having to do that. I thought that was a pretty major indictment of Aaron, Morgan and Nicole.

We are ok right now. I think good is a few more games away, as is consistency. I don't know if great is possible with this team, but I think good and solid is possible.

And I hope we get there starting in a couple of days. I think Aaron misses the Tech game, and not just because she has a concussion.

I also think this will be a very solid team in 2-4 weeks. I also agree that 'great' seems very unlikely. It will make a huge difference when our outside shooters start knocking down shots consistently. Wyatt can/should be used a lot to bolster the BTA shooting. I still don't think we've seen Kornet at her best but if she keeps working hard, I think she can be a 10 point scorer along with 8 rebounds we can count on night after night.

I would also like to see this team run much more than it has so far. All it would take is to pass the ball down court rather than dribble it. I also think Wyatt would fit in well in that regard as she is a good ball handler and doesn't make a lot of mistakes. In case you can't tell I'm beginning to really like Derica. Good shooter, high basketball IQ, takes care of the ball, pretty good defender...lot to work with from a coach's perspective.

Agree wholeheartedly, tycat; and I also agree with MSProud's comments. I have a hard time understanding those who refuse to see Gioya's talent and potential. Sure, she's a freshman and therefore makes some freshman mistakes. But Carter IS a stud (metaphorically) and absolutely the most talented player on our team. Sherri knows what she's doing by playing this kid so much. I predict Carter will make some of our posters feel pretty sheepish before the season is over. JMHO.

I neglected mentioning Derica (don't know why!) but I thought she was a different player on the court yesterday. She cut her hair and maybe that was what was holding her back! ;) Her shooting was still there but I thought she played with a LOT more confidence, she moved well without the ball and did all the little things well. She may have very well moved herself solidly into the playing rotation for the conference season, and not just because Aaryn was injured. Great job, Derica!

If that was against Baylor or Iowa State I would agree; however my perception is that Sherri was letting her play through some things. For example, she didn't pull Carter out when she got her 4th foul. If it was a close game, Carter wouldn't have got as many chances.

Carter is an exciting player. Right now she and Campbell are my favorite players to watch.

While we need the aggressiveness and driving ability that Gioya has, "potential" means she isn't doing it now. Limiting playing time when you have turnovers helps limit having games with 1 assist, 9 turnovers, 4 of which were on offensive fouls. BUT....obviously SC likes her potential, and isn't bother with turnovers like some coaches. (Look at her track record on turnovers). So I am just going to grit my teeth, and hope that Gioya matures quickly with the extra playing time she is getting.
