OU vs Utah

He's a professional broadcaster - he's certainly smart and good enough to know the players names. He travels with the team, and he's had plenty of chances to talk to her. Sweetest OU Girl had the reason he's right and you guys are wrong.

Her reasoning was that he was probably mispronouncing it but Vivi might be too embarrassed to say anything. So how are we wrong? I would think that the broadcasters would not speak to the players to get the pronunciation of their names, I would think this would come from a department within sports.
So I would say someone is dropping the ball......be it the sports department or the announcer. However, if this has gone on since she has been here and I have no idea, then I would say the sports department should make sure he gets the correct pronunciation. Vivi does not seem like the type of person who would correct it, if she were to hear it. She pronounces her name "Louis."

BUT hey my being wrong about this matter isn't a big deal but this conversation seems to offend you and I don't get that.

It's rather interesting that we have had this long discussion of how the announcer should pronounce Louis. Yet, apparently, nobody noticed that during the televised BYU game that we had a reserve that substituted in for Maddie several times, Shaya Campbell. I don't think Shaya was ever anything other than Shaya or Campbell. Now, that is bad enunciation.

I noticed that one also, but we'll have to forgive him, because he's head coach of the Spurs, not a professional announcer.

Not sure your point, Syb. Personally, I believe the OU announcer should at least get the names of the OU players right. Is the world going to end, if not, no. The hate that is on the internet will probably result in that AND not talking about this board, because it is mild compared to others. As far as HOW to pronounce "Louis" guess I missed those conversations but do not see a room for argument as to how to pronounce it. It is Vivi's name and how she pronounces it is the correct pronunciation. Wouldn't you agree?

I guess maybe the BYU announcer knew something about this team last year since using Campbell instead of Kellogg or maybe just those huge corporate
food corporations are interchangeable to him.

Now that made me smile.

Just to be clear, I expect at home her name is pronounced "Lou-ie" since it is a French speaking country. So the announcer is probably right, but those wanting it pronounced "Louis" are just saying "Who cares how it is supposed to be pronounced, I just want it pronounced like I like it in my limited awareness".

Has anyone figured out how to pronounce "Budapest"?

I doubt that those that believe it is being mispronounced have limited awareness. It probably is pronounced Loo-ee in Haiti, but that is not how
Vivi has pronounced it since her first soonersports.com video until Thursday
on the thread with the link with 4 of the Sooners speaking of the things
for which they are grateful. Vivi always pronounces HER name Louis. I believe that should be recognized and honored, especially by OU media personnel and sportscasters. AND again, not a big deal. I am just not sure why with all the responses, some of which the poster(s) seems offended, this major point is ignored.

Brenda Vanlangen made a point on the air that ViVi's last name has been mispronounced and that it is correctly pronounced Louis, not Loo-ee. She obviously did her homework.
