Big home win, Llanusa keeps flashing her ceiling.
We've seen the same thing from Pellington at times too.
If Ana and Pellington were ever going off in the same game OU would be a
tough out in the Big 12 tourney.
This win certainly helped any NCAA chances, still hard to say what those are.
I really hope Sherri can add some a high rated big in 2019 because
Ana, Pellington, Tatum, and Madi sure seem to be changing the direction of the
program in a very positive way.
I may be wrong in my thinking, but I am happy to see a plethora of what appear to be excellent guards and small forwards. I know you need a post. More than that, you need people who will rebound, no matter what position they play. Vivi, like Courtney, has demonstrated the ability to alter a game by blocking shots. But, I rather like having most of the points coming from guards.
Sherri built the program on guards. Our best year was really one in which we had no real post. We featured a couple of forwards and a bunch of guards. We made it to the finals. I was greatly disappointed when we got the great post, the best all-around post ever, and didn't win it all because whatever guards we had discovered the land of the ACL. I want to rebuild with that in mind.
I love the idea that Madison is a scorer that Collier called "a beast." I like the idea that Shaina is the fastest since DRob and a bit better offensive player as a freshman. I love the idea that Ana can score from everywhere and rebound as well. The arrival of Tatum who is known as a ball-conroller who has operated with the best in the business is exciting.
But, I am just excited about a rather unheralded recruit. When someone tells me that a guard hit over fifty percent of her threes and almost sixty percent of her shots, I like that. I don't know if she is a step slow. I've seen player after player who was supposed to be a shooter. I want someone who can hit those shots. If I have Shaina, Madison, Tatum, and Ana on the floor, I think Taylor should be able to find an open shot, slow or not. If she hits only fifty percent of her threes, I'll be happy.
I still remember when Wooden won a national title with no starter over 6-4, and his stars were 6-1 and 6-2. Ran Michigan off the floor. I still remember Steve Patterson who nobody thought would see playing time, but who was an effective post on a national title team just by getting rebounds and playing defense for a host of UCLA guards and forwards. I want a presence, but I really want the focus to be on a bunch of charged electrons flitting around the nucleus. Makes for explosive reactions.
