Has he played PG a single game this season? I thought Cousins, Hornbeak and Grooms have started at pg every game this season. Am I wrong about that.

He often guards the other team's PG. He is a 2/3.

That's why it's called OUInsider. Thay've just informed us of something none of us on this site knew.

Why would anyone be inclined to visit that site. I haven't had a reason to even look at OUI for about 2 years now. The don't even have accurate news with football. From what I've read James Hale was basically saying that Jackie Shipp's job was safe up till the day it was announced that he was fired. I don't know this for sure but that's what I read on other sites. It seems like you can get all the information that premium sites deliver from message board and twitter long before sites like OUI or the rivals and scout site. Add to that some of the reports from Hale I've seen have almost no grammar or spelling checks on them. I understand this from a message board poster but that's his damn job. How the heck did he ever get out of journalism school?

As far as Hield's position. I think of him as more of a hybrid. There's probably times where he's basically been a point guard in a set. Sorta like James Harden but he's nowhere near as good of course.

Hield effectively runs the point when Grooms or Cousins aren't on the floor which is quite often.

At a minimum he runs co-point with Hornbeak

when you say OUinsider said this, where did they say this and who said it?

The article was written by a fairly new guy on the Insider staff, Mike Della Vecchio. I forgot about him. I think it's possible his calling Hield a point guard was a typo. He appears to be a straight up guy who is actually quite knowlegable about basketball. Either way, it's great that Buddy is good to go and that we might get our first look at his return in the WVU game.

Personally, I wouldn't even agree with this. I think Hornbeak has run the point when Grooms and Cousins are out but I wouldn't necessarily argue about it either.

i agree with you

hornbeak took over the point from cousins (cousins moved to the wing) early in the season .... he has been back at the 2 for a while .. buddy has played 0 PG ..

I've not seen him play PG at all, but every commentator since he has been hurt has mentioned that we are without our starting point guard.

There's certain isolation sets where he can be a point guard role. But I wouldn't really say he's been a point guard. He's our best guard.

So now having isolation is playing the point role?

Not really although it can lead to some pg type plays where he passes to an open man. That is also why I agree he hasn't really played point.

Hield just flat out isn't a a point guard. OU insider goofed. Football is obviously their bread and butter, but it'd be nice if they had an idea of the basketball team composition.

Hield is not a pg, and has not played pg this year, and probably will never play pg at OU.

Exactly. If he ever plays PG a lot bad things have to happen: injuries, guys fouling out, player ineligible, etc...
