Our showing - fan-wise

I was debating whether or not to post anything, but what the hell.

I can say, unscientifically, that OU was the third least represented school at the Big XII Tourney, ahead of only Texas Tech and TCU. What the hell is wrong with our fans?

Seriously, the tournament has been a blast. Kansas City puts on a really good party. It's a lot of fun. Oh, and we have a pretty decent basketball team for the first time in a while.

It's obvious we have some really passionate basketball fans. Why don't we support our program like the other schools do? Hell, Texas had a pretty good section.

I'm one of those that never wanted the men's and women's tournaments separated. I always tried to attend men's and women's games when they were both in OKC and Dallas. But, since I had a free room with family in Dallas and the tickets to the women's tournament are cheaper, it was a no brainer.

I was there and it was embarrassing. A friend of mine asked me why the OU fans weren't making noise? Heh...only about 10 of us total were there. I don't get it, really.

ISU fans were very loud today. They have great fans.

I was sitting with my cousin in the upper deck. I didn't see more than two other OU fans in the upper deck. The OU sections down below were very sparse. Also, walking around the P&L District before the game, I counted four. It was REALLY bad.

I agree 100% that OU has some of the worst support of any Big 12 team. I wish I could figure it out b/c we have such a passionate football fan base. The Thunder is certainly part of it, but we were bad before they were on the scene as well.

As for ISU fans, that's an easy one. They love to travel for bball b/c they normally don't have a bowl game to go to for football. Plus they get to get out of the corn and come to the "big city" where it is warm. This coming from all my IA and ISU friends up here.

There are quite a few OU fans in KC. You see them at watch parties and around town. Why they didn't show up today I don't know. It seems as if there were more fans at the women's games I went to at KU and KSU then were here today.

What is funny is that the game at TCU was roughly 60-40 in favor of TCU which to be honest wasn't a bad showing for OU fans

I must admit I have never been to the Big 8/12 tourney in KC but have been to all the ones in Dallas and OKC

I was in my employers suite and I saw another OU fan in the suites on our side. I saw probably 10 behind the teams bench and a handful scattered around the lower sections. Honestly, I would guess maybe 50, tops, from what I saw. It's been that way every year the tourney has been in the Sprint Center.

I think if we had won, more fans would have come for tonight's game but it still wouldn't have been a great showing.

Considering it would have been against KU no doubt it would have been 95-5 KU at best

I was there and agree, but I will say there were several loud OU fans one section over from me. KC is Hilton south for Iowa State, always has been.

You were likely in 116 or that area. That was the only area, other than behind the bench, that I saw OU fans. I just wish we could bring fans like OSU does. That would be nice.

I went several times when they played at Kemper Arena and, yes KU, KSU &
ISU fans were predominant but there were usually 2000 or more OU fans.

I can't say much since I didn't go, but when they moved it up a day that made it tough. Used to be if you lost in the Quaterfinals at least you were in KC for the weekend. Now if you lose you are wasting an extra day of vaca for a Friday. They need to rotate the damn thing back to OKC and Dallas.

Anyway, to your other point it does seem OSU is bringing the most of the non local teams to the tourney.

Hopefully this will change over time. What Kruger took on will not be a quick fix. There is a trust factor involved with fans and an athletic program. Capel set that trust on fire and it takes time to rebuild it. Kruger has done it before and will do it here. Great start.

I do agree that starting it a day early certainly makes it less appealing to me. Can't speak for others, though.

ISU really isn't any more local than we are. Moving it up does make it harder, but it doesn't change the fact that our showing was pathetic.

Indy.....if you lived here you would realize that ISU is 100 times more local than us. There are a ton of KU, KSU, MU, Nebbish, and ISU fans that live here. There are just a smattering of OU fans. I work at a company that has nearly 2000 people in our facility and there are 7 OU people. Several hundred ISU folks. We even have more Texas grads/fans than OU fans. Most OU people move south to Dallas, etc., not up here.

Not to beat a dead horse but people don't drive six minutes to go to games let alone six hours.

I'll drive to Lawrence and Manhattan for games. I even used to go to Columbia.
