Summary:

This team will be different than any team in the last 5-6 years.

Will not be known for home runs.

This team is really quick.

More bunts for base hits.

More hit and runs.

Romero is looking really good. Hit 900 last weekend.

She expects Stevens will be closer to what she was a couple of years ago.

Patti's not known to be a bad sunshine pumper so I'm pumped.

I agree that she is a pretty straight shooter. She is more realistic about her team than Sherri and Stoops are about their teams.

The one thing that concerns me is what she considers quick. She tried to make Arnold into a slap hitter last year, and Kelsey just didn't look fast enough to beat out the slap hits, nor was she a base-stealer. Turang is the only person that we have had who could consistently get on with slap hits. I guess we were more effective earlier, but the defenses began to work on it. Now, you really have to be quick to get on with a slap hit.

I can see that we might have more speed. Last year, we didn't go from first to third all that well on singles. I suspect that will improve.

From the stats of last weekend, they appear to be meeting the ball rather than going for power. We only lost about fifty home runs, and we should have some HR production from their replacements. Down thirty to forty might be expected. But, we may be changing our approach to keep the ball in play more.

I hope she doesnt try to make
Arnold into a slap hitter again. Arnold did not look comfortable. She appeared to be a bit awkward and unnatural. That may be the same as pushing water uphill.

From the softball twitter, it appears that she made remarks about Romero, Chestnut, Finney, Townsend, Hatfield, and Wodach, but gives no information about what was said. It did say, as Norm said, that Stevens appeared to be back to her prior standards. Any transcriptions?

Patty sounded high on Chestnut. First base is a competition between Townsend, Hatfield, and Wodach. Whoever is the starter needs to be hitting in the 3,4, or 5 hole. It sounded as though whoever hits the best, will most likely be the starter at that position. They are giving mound time to all four pitchers but trying to rest Paige some because of some knee trouble she has developed since the summer.
