Pending Targets

Because it starts rocking the team chemistry. LK is big on that. This could be a really long post if I went into detail, but LK has a way of doing things, and recruiting over kids like that is not a part of how he operates.

How about a solid pg that understands his role will be as the backup? I don't want a backup that sucks, just one that will accept that role. LK is building a program here. You don't start replacing guys like Woodard with one year pg's when you are building a program.

All of this makes a lot of sense. I hope LK can bring in a solid PG.

The 5th year PG question is probably moot anyway. Those guys do not grow on trees.

Besides, Jordan may make a big jump in improving his play between now and his sophomore season. The OU coaches know how to coach-up guards.

Woodard is a nice player. The best point guard we have had in years. But, let's not get carried away. Kruger has already done his best to recruit over him. But, Tum Tum got away. And he will continue to try to recruit over him and Buddy, and Spangler and Cousins.

It is the same thing every year. Kruger doesn't have a way of doing things that allows room for tenure, or incumbency. He has one objective. That objective is to win basketball games clean. The best players or the players currently playing the best, get the minutes.

tum tum would not have been recruting over woodard .. and would have not started next season

I agree. He's going to recruit the best players and the best players will play. I just dont think a 5th year guy comes in an starts over Jordan.

A 5th year PG better than Woodard is probably already starting and isn't interested in transferring to another school ..... unless there is a coaching change and/or personality conflict.

Hes one of the best TRUE FRESHMAN pgs to ever play at Oklahoma. He played great as a freshman at times and next year should improve by leaps and bounds.
I just don't understand how you can write off a true freshman, who was the difference in several wins this season. Hes gonna be a 4 year starter and an all conference /all american type pg before he leaves here.

Its not writing him off. TumTum is better. I want better players at OU, better than Jordan, better than Isiah and Buddy... etc.

Yep. I'd be shocked if Woodard, Hield, and Spangler all didn't start every game the rest of their careers at OU.

Same here. It's going to take some damn good young talent to do that.

Tum Tum has proved nothing on the d 1 level yet. He might be an absolute star, win the the Naismith , and go pro next year....but hes proved nothing yet.

Second Kruger has stated numerous times he holds solid 4 year players much higher then other coaches. He isn't and cant do a Kentucky recruiting plan of one and done elite players, year in year out.

Kruger would rather get elite play out of a 4th year sr which he has coached for 4 seasons then take a chance on one and done freshman stars.
At a none elite school like Oklahoma( not a top 10 program) its much easier and a better recipe for our program and our coaching style.

The way our team played this season why question kruger or ou's lack of talent??? Being young was our biggest hurdle. We aren't going to fill our roster with Mcdonald All americans, so whats wrong with finishing second in a great conference.....with basically a team full of underclassmen?

Everything you said is correct. But, that doesn't change the fact that you are operating from a faulty premise.

You seem to think and be saying that our current group of players are the best possible players available for building a program the way Kruger wants to build one.

There were 4 yr players available this season and there will be some every season that are better than and capable of beating out some if not most of our current starters. I certainly hope Kruger gets some of them reeled in over the next couple of years.

But not Cousins? It will be interesting to see if Buford starts from day 1. Also, injuries will likely "shock" you. I'm not sure we will see another year where where LK starts the same 5 players every game.

I thought it went without saying that injuries could change that.

Cousins should probably be included too, but I'm a little more certain on the other 3.

So if we get Trier or Grandstaff you don't think LK will give them the opportunity to start? He isn't recruiting them to be backups their first 2 years on campus.

It wouldn't be two years. It would be one year, at most. I guarantee you Grandstaff would come off the bench. He is going to have an adjustment period, and being a "shooter" more than anything, will be perfect off the bench. Trier might could start, but who you gonna bench? Cousins as a senior? Woodard as a junior? Like I said, he might start, but I don't think it's a given.
