Next season OU will have Fitzgerald, Goff, Osby, Thompson, and Washington. Don't we desperately need a point? That should be respectable rotation assuming Fitzgerald continues to improve and Goff can start. (One thing I will say is Fitzgerald has to improve his defense and rebounding, there is a lot more to basketball than scoring points but I hope he can and will learn to defend and rebound)

Are there any really good points looking at OU?

It's interesting that you say that because I was just looking at Carl Blair's recent numbers since taking over the point. In the last 7 games he has 42 assists and 18 turnovers. Thats an average of 6 assists and just under 3 TO's per game. But even if you only took his season average counting earlier in the year before he had basically won the job, here's how they stack up against some of the OU pg's in recent history....many of them juniors and seniors. I expect he will be better as a junior and senior as well. And you can only imagine what his assist numbers would be like had he played with Blake Griffin or Taj Gray to feed in the halfcourt game or on the break for dunks. Not to mention that he's only averaging 23 mins per game to this point. Nearly all of these guys averaged 30+ mins per game, like Blair has in the past 7 games.

6.9 - Terrell Everett (Senior) - also averaged 4 TO's per game (Blair averages 2.8)
6.0 - Carl Blair (last 7 games)
5.0 - Terrell Everett (Junior)
5.0 - Tommy Mason Griffin (Freshman)
4.7 - Quannis White (Junior)
4.4 - Carl Blair (Soph) - season average
4.1 - Quannis White (Senior)
3.9 - Austin Johnson (Senior)
3.9 - Drew Lavender (Frosh)
2.8 - Austin Johnson (Soph)
2.7 - Austin Johnson (Junior)

His offensive game is starting to come around as well. He's shot around 50% from the feild all year and around 33% from 3. His biggest weakness is letting guys beat him off the dribble, but that wouldn't be so apparent if we had an shot-blocking at all, something that Goff should provide the next 2 years.

IMO we need a big like Aaron McGhee and a guard like Terrell Everett.

I take that to mean you are not too worried about pg. I hope you are correct. If Blair is the answer, OU may be able to turn things around quicker than most think. If Goff is a top 10 PF/C in the Big XII and Fitzgerald continues to produce points, OU should have a legitimate front court (notwithstanding Fitzgerald's issues on defense and the boards). If Osby and Clark and run the lanes on the break (which they should be able to do) and produce on the offensive end the only real issue will be defense.

Maybe Capel can set another record at OU, biggest single season turn around. I don't know that is really a record you want when it was your team in both seasons but it is certainly better than multiple bad seasons in a row.

Blair's problem is not on the offensive end. I've said a number of times that he's an excellent passer with above average court vision. He still turns the ball over too much. But I believe he can improve in that area of his game by gaining more experience and working on his handles in the off season.

Carl is WAY behind the players on your list on the defensive end. He's just not quick enough to stay with most of the point guards we've played so far, and it will only get worse as we move into the Big 12 portion of our schedule.

If he can improve his foot speed, which I doubt, he could be a fairly decent PG. The question is, can Capel take that chance? Obviously, he doesn't think so or he wouldn't be trying to sign another PG.

I believe Blair is a servicable point. Probably his turnovers will diminish with experience and his assists go up as well as his scoring. Remember he is young and new. I want a killer pf to play opposite Clark who is going to be good. Next we will need a deadeye shooting guard.

Gosh, I remember how everyone bashed on AJ for four years. I would love to have that kid back. Really good defensively with his long arms and could make things happen on O as well.

Blair is bad at defense. Numerous times against aTm, his man had easy layups.

Kind of off-topic here, but Fitz chose us over Louisville and a few other schools. I'm curious how Fitz would fit into Louisville's system because he's not fast enough to be effective in their game, IMO. And, he can't play a lick of defense. I'd love to ask Pitino how he intended to use Fitz...

I am not sure if quickness is Carl's problem on defense. Rather when I have payed close attention to him on the defensive end, I have noticed he playes flat footed. I think if he would learn to continuley move his feet and stay active, he would be better on defense.
