PG practice video with 1v1 at the end

Couple observations after watching the the 1v1 session at the end twice.

Newell seems quick and fluid.

All three come across as physical and tough in that little session, only practice but good to see.

Blair's experience at the D-1 level shows, especially in that ball fake vs Taylor at the end. I think he has to be in the lead early just because of that.

I get why you and everyone else thinks blair is the starter...but man im really pulling for taylor or newell...I think they will be more exciting to watch and down the road can offer much more.

I think there is a lot to be said for having a guy like Blair in there that is steady and doesnt make mistakes (which is the vision i am getting from those that are describing his game)....

I think we will probably see a mixture of these 3 on the court with Blair controlling the Point and the other two in there as the 2 guard at times...

My Observations:

Calvin Newell looks like a dynamite player. Very quick, great handle, and can score at will

Carl Blair definitely shows he has experience. He is in great shape and surprised me with his shooting stroke.

T.J. Taylor is built like a tank. I really think we could see him at 2 guard to allow Carl and Calvin to split PG duties. He needs to gain some explosiveness. Let's hope that ankle injury from last summer isn't still bothering him.

My favorite part of the whole video was when T.J. and Calvin were absolutely fighting each other for that loose ball. I just get a vibe that these players are hungry and ready to prove themselves. I think we could have a pretty gritty team this year.

Very impressed with how hard they all 3 were working. Welcome change.

Holy quicks on Newell

I just got home from work and finally got to watch the video!! In my opinion, and I dont even think it was close, newell looked like the best player...He is by far the quickest
Taylor looked slow...I think he is prob best at the 2 but who knows
From those three I think newell is the best, blair will be the backup...with taylor playing the 2 alongside pledger

That was something I said on another thread, when is the last time we had three god D-1 players scrapping for minutes at the PG spot?

Newell made Blair and TJ look as if they were going in slow motion in some of those drills.

I'm not counting young T.J. out by any stretch of the imagination, but If I had to choose my point today it would be Blair. He has this look to him that he knows how to manage a game. He has a nice stroke as well. Calvin is a very explosive athlete that can create his own shot and score the basketball. Boy, this is going to be fun! BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!:clap

I think TJ could win a bunch of games for us going strong to the rack with his foul drawing body.

Would last year's starting PG ever dive on the floor like that?

No, I won't say his name.

In practice at that.

Newell appears to clearly have the most talent.
Blair looked pretty good too.
It appears that at this point Taylor is a natural slashing 2 who could give us some spot PG duty in the case of foul trouble or injury. He just doesn't have quite the handles or quickness of the other two to be a big factor at PG in the Big 12.
