Should OU fire Lon at the end of this season?

Remember a couple seasons ago when so many people wanted to claim we finished ninth or whatever it was because that was our seed based on tiebreakers? Funny how some of those people now are the ones discounting our seed and noting that we didn’t finish in third by ourselves. The fact is, yes we tied for third. And two years ago, we tied for sixth IIRC.

I was one of those and I say we finished 3rd

Then there's the guy who insisted we'd finished in the cellar several times, and when it was pointed out to him that in sports jargon, "the cellar" is last place, he tried to redefine the term.

I'm fine with saying we tied for third, as long as we're consistent about it. But this board, collectively (though with exceptions, of course), prefers to view things negatively. Had we tied for third with the sixth seed, it's a certainty that the predominant stance here would have been that we'd finished sixth (except for the one poster who would have us in the cellar). And anyone who pointed out that we actually tied for third, as some are rushing to do now, would have been shouted down.

No. Nothing has changed. His seat should be hot. He should retire/move on.
Finishing 3rd in a pathetic conference with little chance of going anywhere in the tournament for the 4th year in a row and not much changing next season doesn't change anything.

this is a joke right?

I must admit that I am surprised at the amount of dissatisfaction with Kruger. One one hand some admit that we are unlikely to get the elite players unless they have a strong tie to Oklahoma. On the other hand the same people are unhappy with results stemming from less than elite players.

I feel that Kruger is a good coach but not a great coach. In today's environment with all of the cheating it is hard to get the elites. If you read the NCAA stuff about Kansas the picture is very clear. Big money involved and Self claiming clean hands when more than one player received big bucks to attend there. OU would never get away with that. The NCAA nailed Sampson big time for too many phone calls when virtually every other coach was communicating like mad by texting.

So if you want an elite program you had better get some well heeled boosters.

I have no problem if Kruger retires. But we should not limit ourselves to young guys. Wooden had his big years at an advanced age. We simply need a coach that is good and recruiting, development of players and the x's and o's, including game management. I think Kruger is good at those things but not really great at any of them. We can probably find someone who will do better than Kruger has done at OU but it will not be as easy as some think.

Should we want a strong program? Certainly but we are not entitled to it just because we are OU. If that is an necessity then you should root for Kansas or Kentucky because they have no problem getting the elite players and the NCAA will never do anything to prevent them from doing what it takes to get them.
