Pritchard reclassifying as 2015 Class?

OUsanchez: Hearing rumors that @fastpp3 might be coming in next year!? @ouhoops. How great would that be?! #Sooners

$10 says this guy's info was reading vbdad's lineup in the 2016 season thread.

It's not uncommon for guys to reclassify, although it's usually the top end players that are looking to be one and done. Nerlens Noel did it, and I think Wiggins did as well.

If he did this, would he redshirt or is he someone that could immediately help?

I would love it if Pritchard came in a year early, but I'll believe it when I see it. I remember the rumblings a month or so ago that he had decided to play his senior year at his Oregon HS instead of going to a prep school. That told me he would finish out his HS career with his buddies….. and enjoy the ride.

I've read where Pritchard is a really good student (3.8+ GPA) so he might have the option to graduate early….. but can he skip 2 semesters of HS? I think he has the game and court savvy to backup Woodard, and sometimes even play some 2 PG lineups like Michigan State did with Trice and Nairns. He can score a lot of different ways, so he would help some of our offensive deficiencies. I think he would get 15-20 minutes/game even if he does come a year early. He's that good.

May seem weird to say, but I'm not sure he would help out much next year, and if that is the case, I'd rather he just come a year later.

His competition for minutes isn't with Walker, it's with Cousins. Pritchard would have have to be a better backup pg than James/Odomes/Buford are backup 2's and 3's. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. But I would think that would be a pretty slim margin either way.

IMHO Pritchard would be a much better backup PG than Cousins. He has better court vision, would be a better passer, and could run the offense. I think he is probably a better outside shooter, too, but the fact that Cousins had the highest 3-point % in the B12 says that I'm wrong there.

Cousins is a lock-down defender and I definitely give him the nod there and on the boards. Also, better foot speed.

Tastes great …. or less filling? Take your pick.

I don't think we ever put Cousins at PG because we want to. I think it's because we're so paper-thin at the position. Pritchard would be taking minutes away from Cousins' backup essentially. I just don't know that it would be worth it for him to throw away his senior year to get 10 minutes a game, and I don't know if it would be worth it for us to lose a year of his eligibility.

Then again, maybe Woodard gets hurt and Pritchard runs point for a team that wins conference and makes a memorable tournament run. In that case, it would be worth it for all parties.

If I were his parent, though, I'd be pushing him to stay in HS.

Plus Cousins is a senior, and Pritchard would be a young freshman.

Like I said, and you said, the margin is probably pretty close either way. But there are probably only about 9 minutes a game available at the backup pg spot. I'm just not sure I see Pritchard making a difference in those 9 minutes, that would make me give up a year of him starting 4-5 years down the road. That is my take on it.

I think Pritchard would backup Cousins a lot, too. We need 2 ball handlers on the floor against teams like WV. If they make Woodard give up the ball, I'm not sure I feel comfortable with Buddy, Buford, or Odomes handling the pressure. I'm not sure about James.

Of course none of us know, but it's fun to speculate. That's what makes this board fun. A lot of posters make good points.

So the only guy that has posted about it is some random OU fan with 19 followers. Seems unlikely.

Like a few others have said, I'm not sure there's a huge benefit to him coming a year early. He would get a lot more minutes as a freshman in 2016-17, and then have 3 years to start.

I never feel comfortable with Cousins running the point. He's a turnover waiting to happen and the offense goes stagnant.

OU needs a backup point guard, hope it happens.

Pritchard did favorite the tweet.
