Purdue should be the model for this program

The team has guys who can shoot but they need more and they need guys who can get them the ball. The team's ball movement got worse as the season went along. They need to move the ball the way UMBC & Marshall do and more shots will go down.

Guess I will have to just disagree with you on this. I watched every single game this season and every game TY got guys all game long wide open shots that they either took and missed or were too afraid to take.

Youre right. Team generally couldn't shoot other than manek and Trae

I am all for pure shooters but have no idea how they are going to get open in our offense. Unless you mean pure shooters + really good basketball players.

Good point. I hate our offense. I will never understand why Lon refused to run some actual sets/plays, instead of the just the free flowing stuff.

Every single game? Manek shot 38% from 3. James shot 36.5% from 3. Even McGusty, who had a down year shot 33% from 3. You're remembering the bad games but not the good games.

The ball too often stalled on offense or they'd have ended up with more open shots. Even so, there'd have been nights they shot 20%.

The home and away shooting stats for those guys was eye opening. And they followed that up in Pittsburgh where the wing shooters went 1-11. They shoot 40% and OU wins.

Agreed. If they just shoot their season average they win.

Here's why.

That's not how the game's played any more. Watch the NBA. Those teams show what works if it's done right. The good ones don't run a whole bunch of plays. Watch the Warriors, Cavs, or Rockets.

Why the flip would I watch the NBA to find out why Lon isn't running sets in college? The college game, especially for teams not named Duke, Kentucky, or North Carolina, isn't the anywhere near the same as the NBA. Different rules. Different athletes.

That said, I do watch the Celtics, one of the best coached teams, and they run plenty of sets/plays. But it is FAR more prevalent in the college game, I'll give you that. Just not in Norman with Lon at the helm.

Honestly OP, TY got them TONS of wide open shots all year long even to the last game. We just had no one who could make one.

And you think he is back next year?

Very disappointing. You are better off than this. 😀
I always like Magic and then the Pistons. That may be before your time, not sure.

LOL

Love those old NBA rivalries. Getting to the Celtics and Lakers play for a title in 2008, I believe, was magical. So much fun.

Exactly. Lon’s offense might be fine with NBA players on the roster who can all create offense off the dribble and with post guys who can be fed to create an inside-out offense.

Yep. And running sets/plays isn't mutually exclusive to also running a fast, spread out, 3 point shooting offense. You can do both. Nobody said that we had to run a slow down offense and bring a lumbering big man off a screen to get post position. But dang, set some meaningful screens away from the ball to bring shooters/scorers free.

I am thinking of my high school and early college days. The showtime Lakers and the Bad Boys.

Of course not, didn’t think I said that if I did I didn’t mean it. He’s gone for sure and If I was his dad I would make sure he goes. Too much money to be made for him to stay in college.

Agree; so we are talking about next year and beyond for OU. If TY was a 3-4 year guy I could agree that pure shooters would be high priority. But OU first needs guys who can create offense and going into next year we really have no one. Some might argue otherwise but they are really talking about guys who can make plays at times but not real consistent difference makers.

We cannot afford to keep running the offense we run with the team we will be putting on the court next year unless we find a couple of new guys who can create offense for the team.
