Pure athletic ability

Why does it bother people that Tyler Neal is a great athlete?

CAn't have it both ways. You can't say that we had great athletes on the team this year AND say that Neal was the best athlete on the team.

If neal is truly the best athlete, which I think is pretty hilarious unless you are going off a less commonly uses definition of athlete, then our team is painfully unathletic

Uh. Napier is MUCH quicker than any guard we have on our roster.

Napier is quicker, but I feel like our guards, with the exception of Woodard, make up for it with their size and length.

Think the correct term is, we are getting some "long" athletes. Wingspan, rim protectors, guys that can elevate and take up space off the floor on defense.

That's what I see in these recruits.

Maybe defensively. Maybe.

But on offense that would only be true if they were getting in the lane, and scoring over guys. They aren't. We're a team of jump shooters. Napier's speed helps him turn the corner and get around guys. Helps him beat guys down the court on the break.

I have no problem with getting bigger, longer athletes, but history tells us there is nothing wrong at all with smaller, shiftier guys either.

You're right, offensively our guards aren't in the same class as Napier. My main point was how our team can be as good defensively.

Shabazz Napier is the prime example of what an extremely talented senior point guard can do. He's a a difference-maker. I think it's safe to say that UCONN would not have made it past the first round without him.

They were lucky to make it beyond the first round with him.

Neal is a very good athlete. He could play multiple positions in the Big XII. He has a big vertical. How many people could play PF and PG in the Big XII? Kruger thought Neal could do that.

I'll take our guards over uk's any day. We just need what they have inside to get to the FF.

Clark was easily our best athlete. Buford appears to be close to his athleticism with more advanced basketball skills. Lattin appears more long than athletic. I still haven't seen any tape on McNeace.

Our current returning players are exactly what ABD said, average D1 athleticism. Their all unique in their own way. Buddy has the best first step, Cousins is the fastest, Woodard is the strongest. But none of them are high risers or have the lightening shake & bake of Napier or Boatright.

I agree. But Napier had 24 points, 8 rebs, 6 assists and 3 steals in that game. Without him, UCONN would have been one and done.

And, if not for a little luck in that game there would be no discussion whatsoever about Kevin Ollie. He would have been just one more rookie coach who lost in the first round.

once again, kruger thought neal could do that in an emergency. It's not like he is magic out their running the point forward.

Yes it was in an emergency situation but how many guys can play D-1 PF and PG in any situation?

I don't get why so many people have trouble with Neal being a very good athlete. Obviously he wasn't like Blake Griffin but you can say that about 90% (or some very high percentage) of the NBA.

lol, what?

UK started three guards that will likely be 1st round draft picks in the upcoming draft. Two of them certainly will be, and Young might go as high as 10-15.

If I'm an NBA GM, trading down to acquire some assets and taking KJ McDaniels from Clemson.

The worst place to be in this draft is 4-8 or so. I think there are a lot of players that will go 10-20 that will be every big as good as those that go 4-9 or so. And while I'm not sold on Wiggins/Embiid/Parker, on paper, those are the easy 1-3 picks.

Hoping Boston jumps up in the lottery and can get a 1-3 pick. They also get the Nets' pick this year (I think), which will be around 15. Would like to see them grab McDermott or Young from UK.
