If Porter gets fired. Which option would you guys prefer.

Option one: Find a good and cheap coaching staff -- wouldn't need to be able to recruit, just coach. and spend the 3-6 million saved on NIL for players.

Option two: Spend the money necessary to bring in a proven coach and staff, and only have about half as much to spend on player acquisition (NIL)

I don't really follow the NBA, but isn't option one the NBA model. The coaches are the lowest paid employees of a team. Meaning all of the players make more than the coaches. I don't know this to be true just somehow came to this understanding.

Most on the board don't like Moser or think he is a good coach, but it would be interesting to see how much better of a coach he would be with a $10 -$12 million dollar per year NIL budget. Good players usually look better coached than bad or average players.

Unrelated to this topic: I think if I was a small budget team coach I think I would spend my money on however many great proven players I could buy (if only one, then one, if I had the money for two, then I would spend it on two). Then, just fill in with the best players I could find that would

Or....

Option 3- get rid of the current AD and admin that are roadblocks, and hire an AD that can fundraise and rally BMDs and corporate support. Then make sure we have an admin that is qualified and prepared to run an athletic department in THIS era of college sports, not that of the 1990s where they are now.

Have that AD, admin, and BMDs, go find the most successful, qualified college coach. Pay what is necessary for salaries and NIL to turn this program back into a top 20 program.

The other two options get us more of what we've had in the last 8 years. Or only fringe success. Rutgers tried option one- it hasn't worked. Option 3 is the only way out.

Probably option one. Get a coach who has a coherent vision for the program but doesn’t have to be a genius. Then spend the rest of the money on NIL stuff

Option 3 isn’t a reality!

Not enough money for salaries and players.

Id be an option 2 guy for sure (but also fire joe c and all compliance staffers but 1 person, so option 3 too)

Cuz i think Sampson does wonders with any talent he gets. So he'd be an option 2 guy.

Option 1 would be caliprari. Gets mcd aa's his whole career and still doesn't do much with them.

Didn't give my opinion in the original post, but I think I would go with option 1. Tons of good coaches out there that would work for mid six figure salaries that know the game. Tons of good high school coaches in my opinion, if you needed to go that direction. I bet with a hefty NIL budget there are a lot of coaches that could be successful. And I don't see why you would need two benches of assistants and whatever the other guys are called or do to coach the team. Less trouble and expense in replacing coaches under option 1 too. I could see the other side of this issue as well.

You would like to think that under option 1, we would have the funds for at least one true big and one proven high caliber point guard. Then, I would guess you could fill in with kids that would play for a scholarship and maybe a couple thousand dollars per month. That is more than decent power conference kids got for the last 100 years.

Think you go with option 1. Although, we’ve basically seen that fail with Capel, Warren, Gallon, and Mason-Griffin

Agreed we don't have the money- now.

But I also stated Option 3 gets a new, dynamic AD that can fundraise and build relationships with alumni, corporate partners, and BMDs. Think how much better off we would be right now with Chris Del Conte over Joe C. Greg Byrne at Bama. Rick George at Colorado. All whom Joe C was once considered better, but not in this era of college sports.

Option 1 is Rutgers, or as @sooner333 stated, Jeff Capel. Or Juwan Howard. Talent without a coach doesn't work either.
Option 2 is Tony Bennett or maybe a Mark Few or Izzo. Lon Kruger. Guys that can REALLY coach, but without equal talent in a NIL/transfer world, can never be the same coach.

Both Option 1 and Option 2 is much of the same we've had since the FF year. Players coming and going, maybe a run here or there. Missing the tournament multiple years. But overall, averaging 20-12 seasons and hope for a shot at the tourney, and MAYBE a Sweet 16. Not a top 25 program.

We either have to go all in and swing for the fences, or we're stuck with the same conversations that have been on this board since 2016- maybe it's time for a change.

With the LinkingCoogs collective, Mattress Mack, and Fertitta, Houston and Kelvin might be closer to Option 3 than Option 2.

I think at this point I’d like someone like Buzz who would at least have an identity and probably a baseline of competence. I used to be against him because I think he’s lower ceiling than some. But I think we just need the high floor for low. That’s really more an option 2. But kind of where I’m at.

Considering Joe C. will be at OU as long as he wants (will never, EVER be fired), neither option will help, since Joe C. can't hire competent coaches any longer. So OU athletics are doomed until he retires (which he may just decide to pull a Jerry Jones and die in his office, since they won't retire).

He will immediately leave if offered the NCAA president job. Someone make that happen

I would request an option in which the admin does not get in the way whatsoever. This is the age of win at all costs. If you are in the way of that then you need to be fired,
