I'm incredibly excited to see this game. Love how hard both teams play and how disciplined they are. As I thought back on some of the discussions on the board this season, it struck me how so many people seem to think there is one right formula. Even though both these teams are great defensively, I think it shows that there are multiple ways to build a championship team. Virginia is primarily built on high school recruits, with one transfer mixed in. Tech has three transfers in their rotation, two of whom are grad transfers. Tech absolutely wouldn't be here without the grad transfers. Seems to show that contrary to what so many believe, different approaches can work.

I agree with you, but the difference is sustainability. Building with high school kids gives you continuity and the opportunity to develop. Virginia has been winning 30 games per season for the past 6-7 years. Nova is in a similar boat. Those are the two best run programs at the moment, and it’s a model that a school like OU can replicate because it doesn’t rely on bringing in 5 stars.

This game sucks for me.. bc it's illegitimate bc Virginia should have lost the last game but i don't want tech, a foe big 12 team, to get a natty... that said, go Virginia... meh

Nothing illegitimate about it at all. Sure, the double dribble was a blown call, but if we are going to say that the refs need to get it right, then they also needed to call the foul that happened immediately before Jerome dribbled off his foot. So had they officiated the play 100 percent correctly, the end result would have been the same ... UVA ball out of bounds, although they would have had a few extra seconds.

Tech could still win this and it is far from over, but UVA brought their "A game" tonight. Tech has to keep trying to get to the basket when they see a path.....and good things will happen for the most part.

Correct.

Too bad it is ugly basketball...

This game is awesome! And picking up late. Every possession matters.

Kinda ironic 2 incorrect calls end up beating UVA

OT....and the Big 12 POY with a bad decision and poor shot selection on the last possession with over 30 seconds left. Even the best can have a brain fart.

heck of a game and effort by Tech, VA has used all their nine lives but managed to find a way, hats off to them

Bad instant replay changed this game. Play all season, any other game and that call goes to TT. Play in last minute of most important game and the call goes to VA. SMH.

That video overturn was the play of the game. I am to the point where I am against using video. Refs miss all kind of calls during games including fouls but suddenly at the end of a game they go to video and decide it hits a guy’s pinky.

I didn't think Tech had the best shot selection down the stretch. And Tech even hit some shots that weren't very good looks at all....and still went down. UVA deserved this game....and good for Tony Bennett. He is one of the good guys.

I agree that they panicked but that was mostly after they went down 4 after that reversal. They would have had the ball down 2. Not saying it was a bad call but I just don’t know how you can really tell. Hate to see it happen that way.

The other big Tech blunder was at the end of regulation. But, heck, at least we can say we lost to the champions.

Man, that was awesome. I had a UVA future ticket at 14:1 so I was pulling like made for the Hoos, but I just like them in general. I will say it again, but Bennett and Jay Wright have built programs that OU could replicate. They don't rely on getting 5 star talent.

Go get a young coach who understands that guards, defense, and 3 point shooting are the only things that matter in college basketball. We will have a lot of success if we do that.

You realize that they have one of, if not the most, efficient offenses in the country, plus a 6'7", Top 10 pick playing for them, right? And we shot a ton of threes with our FF team and people just complained that we didn't run set plays.

Anyhow, I'm with you on UVA. Love their program and I'll be cashing a 20:1 futures ticket from my early December trip to Vegas.

I thought one of the worst plays of the game for Tech was when Jerome was driving to the bucket with around 12 seconds left needing a three and Hunters man collapsed to the lane to pick him up leaving Hunter open for a three to tie it. Just stick with your man. Give up the layup, didn’t look like he would have taken the two even if they let him. He was looking to kick it for a three.
