Here is an interview with Doug Gottlieb from today on KC sportstalk radio.

http://www.stationcaster.com/player_skinned.php?s=26&c=373&f=72428

He talks about OU for the first 12 minutes or so.

Doesn't think OU will hire BCG, doesn't think Buzz Williams is the best coach OU could get. He says Buzz is a good recruiter and loves the way his teams play but doesn't like the fact they don't run anything.
Said OU is a better job than Marquette because OU has been "very good with 3 different coaches in the past 25 years; good predictor of success". Also cites the fact the Big 12 is a better conference to compete for OU than the Big East is for Marquette.
He says OU is a program that somebody can win big and win soon.
Said Blaine Taylor would be a better hire.
Talked about Tubby...highly regarded in Oklahoma, and thinks he would do good at OU.
Doug said Capel felt like a fish out of water in Oklahoma and cited the year of the president election when Capel told the players to make sure they vote and a local beat writer wrote an article that Capel instructed his players to vote for Obama.

Anyway, some good info in the interview. If you have the time, you should listen.

I am glad he mentioned Brandon Martin. I think he will have tremendous influence on this decision.

Don't sleep on Kevin O'Neill then.

I'd be stunned if we hire Kevin O'Neill. I understand what you are getting at, but O'Neill is the biggest jackass in college sports and has had off-the-court problems as well. I just don't see that being a fit at all.

That's kinda the problem we just had with Capel

I'm assuming that Gottlieb would be referring to the article Scott Wright wrote entitled "Capel: Cast Your Vote - OU coach tells players to take election seriously."

In the article, nowhere does it state that Capel informed his players to vote for Obama. Capel is quoted as talking about the significance of being a black man and being able to vote, and it is Capel himself who brings up Obama by stating "we have a black man in Barack Obama who maybe has a chance to be president."

It was Tony Crocker who said that during one of the presidential debates, "he (Capel) sent us a text about Obama, telling us how much the world has changed."

Wright specifically states in the article that "Capel isn't one to try to impart his political views on anyone else, but he exudes a great amount of pride in seeing a black man so close to the presidency."

The article ends with a quote from Capel that implies George Bush was responsible for high gas prices - "Look where we are. Look at gas prices...It's a really important time for our country and it's important that people pay attention and pick who they feel is the best candidate."

If Capel is relaying that story to national writers like Gottlieb, that's not fair to Wright. What Scott Wright wrote was very fair to Capel and merely was a compliation of Capel's quotes and his own players' quotes.

It had nothing to do with the article, it had everything to do with how some people who read the article interpreted it.

Gottleib is an aggie. I wouldn't believe that anything he says would benefit OU, in fact I would go with the opposite.

I get that as OU fans that we are supposed to hate everything Aggie, but The Gottlieb Show is a solid program. He is very knowledgeable. He, generally, comes off as fairly objective. Maybe he is different, when he interviews on the Animal. I usually avoid the Animal, so I don't know.

Little known fact is that Doug's dad briefly went to OU.

I am glad he mentioned Brandon Martin. I think he will have tremendous influence on this decision.

i would not trust Brandon Martin to make this decision, but i respect him immensely and consider him a friend. and i'm pretty sure if i practiced for a bit, i could take him at Dornick and would not be wearing pink and gray as a Shark colored theme.

:D

If Brandon Martin had as much influence as you thought there would be only one phone call and one interview:

It will be interesting to see the board turn on Buzz if they don't upset Xavier. The thing is we could move quicker if he is a primary target.

Speed isn't an issue for me as getting the best candidate to bring OU out of this funk for the long haul.

I'll wait a month to do that.

I don't see this taking long. The competition pool just stands to grow. We don't want to get into the situation we were in last time we did this.
