Recruiting Needs...Again

Threads like this are silly until we know who is leaving. What we "need" changes pretty drastically if Willie, Willis, or Allen leave. Moreso Willie and Allen, but still. You have to have bodies.

...if Willie does leave I'm very concerned about where our perimeter scoring is going to come from outside of TMG and Cade.

We have to hope that Pledger finds his groove. Even though Pledge didn't have the frosh year of TMG and Tiny he seems the type of quiet, mature kid to have learned a lot about his role and find his legs next year. It would be great if he develops a mid-range game.

We don't play Tubbs ball....

Abercrombie was a Kelvin recruit.

Cheese was good enough he'd play for any OU team no matter the era or the coach. He was a 6'6" wide body and a rebounding machine.

The needs are 2 inside players, 1 of which needs to make an impact.
But the #1 need is good chemistry.

The wants are many.

A PF that is a weakside shot blocker but is also versatyle enough to defend hybrids. Basically Udoh.

A power forward that can guard a 4 man to man, so we don't have to play zone all the time. A kid with girth can guard a taller 5, but a bigger heavier kid usually doesn't have the lateral quickness to guard a forward. I believe this was one of our problems this year. When we put to bigs on the floor, we absolutely couldn't play man to man defense, and when we went to a four guard lineup with Croc at the 4, he did the best he could but we were eaten alive on the boards against the good teams.

After a "patillo" type 4, then I just think we need some good players of about any type, e.g. a point wouldn't hurt, a wing that can and will play defense, a big. We just need some good players that will defend and work.

I know some think Aziz or another big is the answer, but if Tiny comes back, I think Ting, Drew and Orlando can man the 5 just fine.

I happen to think we are holding out for Jones, and if that doesn't work out, and a backup plan doesn't emerge, Jeff is going to ask Clark to man the 4 for a year and until he can fill that position with another player. This probably wouldn't sit well with Clark, I have read statements by him that he sees himself as a perimeter player. But, I think this is what happens.

We need Ndiaye and a power forward (or two power forwards if we don't get N'Diaye) and a shooting guard to replace Willie. Pledger isn't going to get it done.
