Watching the NCAA tourney really makes me think about recruiting and putting together a team. I think that if I was the head coach at Oklahoma, this is what I would focus on:

1. Best Players in our region (OK, TX, AR) and all players on championship high school teams.

2. Any Non American looking to play in the US. (Aussies especially)

3. Top Juco College Players

4. Any D-1 Transfer

I think I can find 13 guys that would like to call Norman home. :) In Lon we trust! Get us back to the Madness!!!!

Recruit roles not players. Ignore the rankings. There are plenty of really good kids from Oklahoma playing in this tournament.

Agree with this. Building a team is about balancing skills to deliver to your on-court strategy. Focus on filling missing roles now...then get the best players you can in 2013 to build a foundation for the future.

From whereever, recruit shooters. The "big" schools get the best athletes. The super big programs, Kansas, Kentucky etc, get the great athletes with great skill. The mid majors tend to get kids that aren't considered high d-1 athletes but maybe have great skills, such as shooting the ball.

Then, in the tournament, they match up well enough and the big schools kids get a little tight, don't shoot well and the lesser athletes shoot their eyes out.

For example, most on here and everyone else for that matter, believed or at least questioned whether Rotnei Clarke and Keiton Page were D-1 caliber athletes, even though everyone that actually saw them in high school would admit that their skill levels, particularly shooting, was off the chart.

What if TU had signed both. With those two kids, a couple decent big bodies (which they have had) and a mixture of a few other kids, I could see Tulsa getting into the tournament and in a one game situation, Rotnei and Page lighting some team up.

This seems to be exactly what CLK has done up to this point if you include Kansas within our region [which I would].

I think recruiting Oklahoma and Texas first is the best strategy. Then fill in with Jucos and transfers when you can use them.

Fortunately, the 2013 senior Oklahoma class is really strong, it's up to LK to sell them on building the program back to where it belongs.

these two recruiting classes in Oklahoma will make or break Kruger IMO
He HAS to pull in 3 or 4 of these kids

I don't care where he recruits. Oklahoma and Texas make sense, especially for 2013/2014, but after that, I don't really care. Kelvin didn't recruit locally very well, and he did just fine. Billy seemed to recruit more locally, but some of that was due to the great JUCO's in the area.
