Recruiting?

Apparently Goff doesn't even warrant OU getting mentioned in the article.

How so? KU will sign some big name players and shoot up the rankings. OU may move up a bit but I don't see OU moving into the top 6 in the conference.

As long as we fill our needs...who cares what the rankings are. We've done a good job so far with Osby and Goff. We land a PG...We've got ourselves a good team for next year...any other recruits that we add are just cherries on top.

In the 25 years of theTubbs - Sampson era ,how many National bluehip recruits did we EVER land? Tisdale ?,MCCalister,Humhrey? That's about it.As long as we can get Top 100-150 talent as we have normally done we will be in position to be what we have been for the last 30 years- Top 25 program. It should be noted that even with OUr golden A. ge of Sooner basketball we are still not a TOP 25program in terms of all-time wins. The fact is ONLY Kansas has that ditinction among Big 12 basketball programs.

Prince Fowler
Kevin Bookout

That's just off the top of my head. If you get into the big-time recruits we used to get out of JUCO then it jumps up a bunch. We were THE major JUCO players for a long time. Unfortunately, there aren't many Mookie Blaylocks hanging around the JUCO ranks anymore.

I believe these are the McDonald's All-Americans OU signed since the start of the Billy Tubbs era, but could be off one or two.

1) Wayman
2) Jeff Webster
3) Ryan Humphrey
4) Drew Lavendar
5) Blake Griffin
6) Willie Warren
7) Tiny Gallon

Regardless, the all-time best OU recruiting class in regards to "hindsight" is Tubbs class of 1983. TMac, Choo Kennedy, Dave Johnson, Soul Man (Dave Siegar), Chuck Watson and Mark Wade. If only Wade had stuck around (he was the starting PG for the Final Four UNLV team of 1987), Wayman may have gotten to play in the Final Four in '85. The biggest weakness of that team? No true PG.

As for the upcoming class, all we can hope for is that Jeff Capel can "close the deal" and get his top targets aboard. That will likely put OU around #6 in the conference, but would also indicate things are pointing north for this program.

Mark Wade. [sigh]

I believe he still holds the Final Four record for most assists in a game (National semifinal against Indiana). Tark revealed in his book that Wade knocked on his hotel door when UNLV came to Norman in '84 and informed the Shark that he wanted to transfer. I called in to Billy's radio show a couple of years ago and asked him about it and he said he was unaware of how it went down, but wouldn't be surprised if Tark's book was correct.

Who'd we have taking the lion's share of the PG minutes in the '85 Elite 8 run? Pannell?

I agree wholeheartedly about the '83 signing class. I can't remember exactly how many points Sieger scored in his career, but check out what the big 3 produced:

T-Mac: 2275 points
Choo: 2097 points
DJ: 1344 points

That's a TON of points for three dudes who came in at the same time. Hell, that may be some sort of record.

I've never followed recruiting closely, but was wondering: How big a recruit was Aaron McGhee coming out of high school? And also out of junior college?

Signed with Cincinnati out of high school. Not sure of his rank then, but when we signed him out of Vincennes JC in the spring of 2000 (I think) he was one of the top 5 JUCO players in the country. He may have even been #1, but I cannot remember.

TMG was a MCD all american too

I'm not that excited about Goff coming in next year...at least not for his production...will be nice to have some size and depth...

But if you look at even the best Juco players we have got in the past 10-11 yrs, most didnt make any type of significant contributions stats wise until they were Seniors....There is that period of time to adjust that they all need, takes a very special Juco transfer to come into a program and dominate from the get go...

Numbers always dont tell all the story in Juco, cause there have been some who put up monster numbers and then dont touch the floor...but i am concerned with his lack of consistent production...just tells me i think it is even more of a given he wont have much of an offensive presence next year...but like i said, any presence at all will work with this team (specially defense)...

You left off TMG and Scotty Reynolds (both signed, Reynolds never enrolled).
