These regional crowds are horrible! I'd be surprised if there were more than 3 or 4 thousand at both OKC and Lexington. I don't think I've seen it this bad. I know there will probably be good crowd in Bridgeport but Stockton, CA may be worse.

I hate to report this, but the city leaders of OKC humiliated our city tonight.

Yes, attendance was low - but that is the fault of the NCAA and the committee that set up the brackets. Plus, of course, the fans of the teams sent here. Of course, just how many WU fans did you expect from halfway across the country. All those fans who showed up in their backyard, abandoned their team when travel was needed. I was especially surprised at how few Baylor fans showed up.

But, back to the city leaders, Chamber of Commerce, Chesapeake management. They refused to open even a semblance of concessions for fans attending the game. In the entire 2nd level - where a pretty good number of the seats sold were located, there was exactly ONE(1) concession stand open. You could not even get a bottle of water in 95% of that arena level. It made OKC look like a true amateur city. Really frustrating. they keep asking us to fund everything they want to do. Even wanting to use MAPS funds to build a hotel from which virtually none of us will get a single penny of use. Yet don't know how to open a couple of concession stands for fans at the NCAA tournament.

Well, the bad thing is that since there were only a few thousand there, only they will know this. Surprising though since doesn't Thunder get a share of any money generated from "their" facility???

From TV, the Lexington crowd looked noticeably smaller than OKC.

I can't imagine how small the crowd in Stockton, CA will be with South Carolina, Florida State and Quinnipiac three of the four teams and the other Oregon State (a long ways away too!). Why the heII didn't they put Stanford in that region??? But even Palo Alto is 4 or 5 hour trip to Stockton!

I'm afraid women's basketball, in general, is in a downward trend after seeing all these empty seats. Even last week on home courts the crowds were terrible, with a few exceptions. The whorns attendance was 3400 last weekend for their home game with NC State in 2nd round game! With all the gerrymandering of women's game sites over the last 10-15 years and it's still like this???

I had much the same thought tonight. Part of the problem being that so many of the games are totally non-competitive. There are a number of factors for this, but the committee basically selecting the Sweet 16 teams by their bracket assignments and home teams - then sending the winners (basically known before hand) to far away arenas. Way too hard for fans. Most of us could do a much better job.

Might be a little harsh to use the word abandoned for fans not traveling half way across the country to follow the team. Tough to do for a lot of people. Baylor fans have more to be ashamed of I think of course they probably are saving their $ for final four, which is speaking of it in their own back yard.
I don't know who is in charge of what concessions are there- NCAA, Peake, OKC All sports- but to have only a severely limited number of concessions is really weak.

Looked like a good crowd in OKC tonight on TV. Or was everyone sitting on the side behind the teams?

According to the box score, the attendance in Lexington for the Elite-8 game between Stanford and Notre Dame was only 2,527.

Box Score (pdf file)
http://www.gostanford.com/documents/2017/3/26//3_26_17_No_6_Stanford_76_No_2_Notre_Dame_75.pdf

2,527 ... Lexington Regional Finals .. Sanford 76; Notre Dame 75
3,128 ... OKC Regional Finals .. Miss State 94; Baylor 85 (OT)

I had not realized that the interest in Women's College Basketball had fallen to such a low level. Hopefully, the other two regional finals will have bigger crowds.

Notes Dame is just a short drive from Lexington.

Bridgeport will have a pretty large crowd, of course, with UConn but Stockton, California with South Carolina and Florida State??? I would be surprised if they could herd a couple of thousand people off the street for free!

Monday's Regional Finals

Connecticut's "home game" at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut was basically a sellout, as the arena seats "up to 9000" for basketball games.

UConn 90; Oregon 52 (attendance 8,978)

******************

Stockton, California Regional Final
USC 71; FSU 64 (attendance 3,134)

Congratulations to the SEC in getting 2 teams into the Final-4 ... USC & MSU.

Connecticut may be why no one else is watching or going to women's college basketball.

There really isn't much competition. There's Geno's squad and then way down is the rest of the pile.

From Richard Deitsch twitter:

The @HailStateWBK-@BaylorWBB game drew 1.310 million viewers on ESPN, most-watched show on ESPN last Sunday.

Women's basketball viewership:
@UConnWBB-@OregonWBB: 1.29 million viewers
@GamecockWBB-@fsuwbb: 1.13 million.
