Rick Issanza

My understanding has always been that until a kid is officially signed, the school can't even reference him by name per NCAA rules. That's why they make all the announcements as soon as the signed LOI is in hand.

Didn't that happen last year? Some guy for ORU or Colorado State or something. Announced transfer but the staff didn't even actually offer him.

Good memory, I think it was an ORU kid who supposedly committed to OU but either it never happened or wasn't official. He wasn't a grad transfer so he would have had to sit out last season, but I wonder where he ended up. Was his last name Martin?

If polla didn’t transfer before, not sure why he would now. This kid has redshirt written all over him.

No reason for Polla to transfer. Issanza would be the 13th scholarship right?

True. He can't sign a LOI because the signing period is over. He can still go to OU and becomes officially "committed" the day he attends his first summer school class...... they start on June 10th.

Correct

1. Doolittle
2. Manek
3. Reaves
4. Kuath
5. Williams
6. Bienemy
7. Merritt
8. Iwuakor
9. Hill
10. Harmon
11. Anyang

Polla + Issanza is 13.

Also, we have 8 bigs on the roster in a sport where guards are all that matter. Lon Kruger roster management ladies and gentlemen.

What?

Merritt, Anyang, Doolittle, Manek, and Iwuakor are all pure 4/5s. Doolittle has some defensive versatility, and Iwuakor looks like he may as well, but those other guys aren't 2s. And not a single one can play on the wing on offense, although Manek can at least stretch the floor.

Can you read? 2/3/4 is what I said rest of the roster!

All about who you can guard!! (That’s defense)

I'm good with 5 quality guards. Can't play 6 enough to keep them happy and one transfers anyway. If one gets injured, just give Doolittle a few minutes on the wing.
Isn't Garang supposed to be a big wing also?

This guy seems to have potential we haven’t had at the center position in a long time. As in Longar Longar or Jabari Brown type of potential. Love his length and athleticism.

Yes. Likely redshirt

That’s not a very high ceiling, but sadly, it would be far better production than we’ve had from a true 5 in a long time.

I would take those guys as the 5 every year.

This is true. It ended a few days ago. He is a free agent until he attends a class at OU or anywhere. It should have been done but unfortunately it wasn’t.

OU has decided that without being able to touch guys dribbling to the basket they need a shot blocker. Think about how much Owens helped Tech this year and what Oregon has done with guys protecting the rim. Of course you then need guys on the perimeter who can score. Hopefully we have some this year.

Polla strictly speculation by me. It’s one more guy he has to compete with for playing time.

Over the last 15 or so years, the only guys taller than 6'8 that I would trade Doo for are Blake Griffin and Taj Gray. Give me the 6'7 and 6'8 guys like Doo and Ro any day of the week, and they'll run you off the floor with Brown, Longar, Lattin, McNeace, etc. That type of guy has a place on this team, but it's off the bench.

Good point about Owens and Tech, Vdad!

Lattin’s greatest strength was that he was a threat to come from the weak side to block or change shots. That threat alone made him an asset on defense. It also got him in early foul trouble.

Issanza seems to have good timing on blocking shots, plus his length and hops allows him to stay well away from the offensive player. He, too, could be an asset in time.

Thats crazy to say... brown and longar were outstanding. I die thinking about longar getting redshirted instead of playing 4 mins a game his freshman year.. he would have been 1st team big 12 sort of player imo

I took a lot of heat for my defense of Longar... he was a really good player though. And yes, total waste of a freshman season.
