Right now Woodard can't be in late

What facts? He missed 2 of 3 free throws today, so it's a fact he's not a clutch free throw shooter? Hield scored all his points in the 2nd half today so I don't want him in the first half of any game because he's a slow starter.

The 1st one at the end of the game was the front end of a one and one and then missed one of two. So 3 points lost in last minute and a half - critical.

Against Texas Woodard did make 8 big free throws to help win that game. But he also missed two key ones that made that one much closer than it should have been. Against Kansas State he missed crucial free throws that would have put OU up. All of Woodard's free throw misses in conference play have been crucial misses.

Vinny, you're overreacting to a couple of missed free throws. Sure, they came at a crucial time of the game. But even the best free throw shooters in the country are capable of missing a throw when the pressure is on.

Jordan has been good from the line the entire season. He was 10 of 10 in the loss to KU; 8 of 10 in the win over UT; 9 of 10 when we beat ATM. I would like to see him at the line more, not less.

This is an absolutely awful thread. I thought we lost to KSU because Woodard was NOT in the game for the last seven minutes because we did not have anyone with the handles to be able to drive to basket. If you don't have him on the floor then you can't get past pressure.

I would take my chances with Woodard on the floor shooting free throws at the end the game every game. I agree with the poster that stated that yesterday was unusual - the refs were icing Woodard with monitor reviews at the end - it really helped Baylor because they got time outs that they did not have.

Woodard is a primary key for the Sooner success.

Jordan Woodard is one of the best free throw shooters on the team, at “crunch time” or any other time. There is no GUARANTEE that one of the other OU players would have done any better in that particular game situation.

The fact is that Woodard, as a true freshman, is OU’s best ball-handler. There are many ways to lose a close game at the end. Making turnovers can be more costly than missing free throws. Here is a positive point to consider: OU did not turn the ball over at “crunch time” on the road when the young team was under a lot of pressure. Jordan Woodard was a significant contributor to this positive point.

OU has been in five pressure-packed conference games so far. The score of each and every conference game has been close (no blow-outs; no comfortable wins). Here are the free throw stats for those five conference games, for the five OU players that average more than 20 minutes per game in conference games.

Conference Games – Free Throws (at least 20 minutes per game)

.900 (9-10) .... Isaiah Cousins
.852 (23-27) .. Ryan Spangler
.806 (25-31) .. Jordan Woodard
.750 (24-32) .. Cam Clark
.667 (6-9) ...... Buddy Hield

Conference Games – Free Throws (bench players)

.833 (5-6) ... Tyler Neal
.750 (3-4) ... Je’Lon Hornbeak
.667 (2-3) ... D.J. Bennett
.500 (1-2) ... Frank Booker

The entire team has shot 79% in the five conference games. This is excellent, and a big reason why OU is 3-2 in the conference against a stout stretch of games.

My opinion: I like Jordan Woodard in the game at crunch time.

On a related topic, Buddy needs to work hard on his ball-handling. He is too “loose with the ball” and can be a liability late in close games. Isaiah Cousins has made tremendous improvement in this area.

Don't read my threads if you don't like it silly. And Lon sat Woodard at KSU because he was having an AWFUL game - I will trust a great coach on his devcision. And if you read my comments, I realize he is our best handler BUT you can't have someone doing your ball handling if they are gonna choke on last minute free throws.

Yes he IS a 78% free throw shooter, that's one thing if it is in the first half or with one minute left and the pressure is on.

Woodard is ONE of the keys to our success. Cam averaging 18 compared to last years 6 is a HUGE reason and Cousins is much better and can we say Spangler? There are many reasons for us being better this year not one.

Traveler, I'm OK that it's your opinion, I have no problem with that - that is why these boards are here - not to all be sunshine pumpers.
Yes we and Woodard are a good free throw shooter "s", BUT Woodard, although he has been good late in the game most of the year, there have been 3 or 4 where he has missed key late game free throws, two of them the front end of one and ones (which doesn't show up on the percentages because he never got the 2nd throws).

I did, but I thought you were joking. :D

Seriously, I know you want the best for the team but coaching kids is like raising kids. Sometimes they have to fall down a few times. We win and he learns - sounds like a win-win to me.

He was also iced by the refs there. I'd rather have a 2nd or 3rd year Woodard in there but he is the best guy for us right now and I like how LK stuck with him.

I understand OP. Here's a possible solution to make everyone happy, leave Woodard in for the handle BUT have Woodard throw the inbounds to Cam or one of the other guys who have been in the pressure situations more and let them get fouled and go to the line. I'm sure Jordan will be better NEXT year but we need the wins this year.

No one on this board is so stupid that they don't realize that. What some people do realize is that the alternative to having Jordan on the floor in these situations is worse. Were Jordan not on the floor in these situations we would be stuck with someone who isn't as good of a ball handler and might not do any better hitting clutch free throws.

Jordan plays at a very high level for a true freshman and the more he plays in these situations, the better he will become.

This argument reminds me of the arguments people had last year about Cousins, Hornbeak and Buddy getting so much playing time. Their development as players was more important than any individual mistakes they might make. Jordan's development is more important than any mistake he might make.

Bounce, I've been on this board almost from the very beginning. Where did you come from, you seem to be from Mars. I have been going to OU football games for 50+ years and basketball for 25+ years - you probably weren't even born DUDE. Have 6 season football tickets and go to many OU Men's and Women's b-ball games and alot of wrestling and baseball games as well. DO YOU? Or do you just sit at home on your little computer and say stupid things? The later is more than likely the case.

Ada, would you send a message to Bounce and tell him to stick to the topic and quit harrassing me? Thanks
